The sci-fi thriller cult “Flatliners” is reportedly going under a remake process. The Joel Schumacher directorial with starring power casts like Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts is going to feature Canadian actress Ellen Page in the remake. According to Cinema Blend, the remake will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev. He was praised worldwide for his directorial work in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” whereas the “Source Code” screenwriter Ben Ripley is in charge of the screenplay of “Flatliners” remake.
Oplev has received a number of accolades for his original Swedish version of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” which was later picked up by David Fincher in Hollywood remake.
The original “Flatliners” is about five medical students who conduct clandestine experiments in order to find out what lies beyond death. The plot revolves around the near death experiences and ridiculing death at moments. Their experiments lead to twisted experiences which are faced by them later on.
The film gained mixed reviews from critics and audiences initially but later was picked as a cult of the 90s’. The film earned a gross $61.5 million alone in the USA, claiming $10 million on the opening itself.
There are no details revealed about the plot line of “Flatliners” remake as of now and it will be quite early to predict the success quotient of the same. With big names like Oplev and Ripley associated to the remake creates a genuine interest of what the classic cult would be.
