Floyd Mayweather may have won the fight against Manny Pacquiao on Saturday, but he is into another fight – a legal battle with his ex-wife Josie Harris. Mayweather’s ex has sued the boxer for defamation and demanded US$20 million damages Read on for more details.
According to E! News, the case was filed in Los Angeles superior Court. It was after Mayweather responded to an interview with Katie Couric on Saturday, before the start of the big fight. During the interview, Couric asked Mayweather about a domestic violence case involving his ex-wife in 2010.
“Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen. Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then, you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.” Mayweather said in the interview.
After the interview, Harris sued Mayweather saying he labeled her as a drug addict and that she was humiliated by his allegations. Harris also added that Mayweather lied about not beating her and disclaiming any responsibility for the attack he did which left her badly injured. Furthermore, she said the lies Mayweather said harmed her personal and professional aspect.
Harris filed a case against Floyd Mayweather on Sept. 9, 2010. In the file, Harris claimed Mayweather entered the house and grabbed her by the hair. She also said that the boxer was in a jealous rage that time which resulted to him viciously beating her in front of their frightened kids. The police came shortly and convinced Mayweather to leave the house. However, he returned 5 hours after and attacked Harris once again. The terrified woman pleaded to her children to call 911 and eventually her son Koraun went out of the house and called for security, said E! News. After the incident, Mayweather turned himself to the police the following day and was later sentenced to 90 days in jail.
Harris also claimed that she was the girlfriend of Mayweather for 18 years and that she is also the mother of their three children including Koraun, Jirah, and Zion.
