“Fortitude” is a complex thriller that will air on Pivot and Sky Atlantic on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2015. Its cast members include Michael Gambon, Stanley Tucci, Christopher Eccleston and Richard Dormer. Read on only to learn more about the series.
According to the synopsis from Spoiler TV, the show is set in the safest place on Earth — Fortitude, a town in the Arctic Circle. However, everything is thrown out of balance after a research scientist is murdered. This prompts Fortitude’s Sheriff, Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) to work with Detective Constable Inspector Morton (Stanley Tucci) to solve the case. However, the more they dig into the case, more secrets and questions are uncovered, rather than answers, causing everyone to doubt each other.
Included in the cast of the Pivot and Sky Atlantic collaboration is Michael Gambon, who portrays wildlife photographer Henry Tyson. He believes that the murder is the catalyst to unearthing Fortitude’s darkest secret. Also joining the cast are Christopher Eccleston, who portrays Professor Stoddart, a research scientist; and Sofie Grabol, who portrays the ambitious Governor of Fortitude, Governor Odegard.
In the first exclusive sneak peek, Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Richard Dormer) gave up his rifle in exchange for his handgun, as they were going to go to the glacier. He then told the men to return his rifle back to him when he was done. After the Sheriff and his partner left in a helicopter, the man with the rifle was asked if Anderssen was the cop that he had placed in the hospital. The man denied it and told him that it was another cop.
In the other sneak peek, Governor Odegard (Sofie Grobal) confronted Professor Stoddard (Christopher Eccleston) regarding a particular report, which could make or break her plan to build a hotel in the area. However, he asked, hypothetically, what would be done if something they had to protect had been found there. He was not able to say what exactly it was but told her that it was something that came out of the ice.
During the World Premiere Q &A Panel, Dormer mentioned that everyone in the town actually has a secret that unfolds during the series, which is a thriller. Tucci then mentioned that what drives his character is his thirst to find out the truth and said that when his character comes in, he believes that it will be a very easy crime to solve since the community is very small. However, he finds that this isn’t so. Morton then enters into a whole new and different world, compared to what he expected. Grabol also mentioned that the script is so complex that they actually have to explain it at times and that the show was a surprising complex thriller.
