Love stories always make us swoon, and with Australian soap “Home and Away” topping trends this week, our favorite headmistress Jade Montgomery, played by Tasma Walton, is hitting the headlines again, this time for her unconventional marriage proposal to husband, funnyman Rove McManus.
Here are some things you don’t know about the couple, who share a one-year-old daughter together:
- Tasma proposed to Rove – She missed him so much after he left for an overseas trip that the 41-year-old mustered her modern woman sensibilities and popped the question to her surprised lover:
“I’d done this little painting that said ‘Marry me?’ on it and he said, ‘You’ve got to ask me properly’ and I was like ‘I can’t, I can’t, just marry me would ya!’ Tasma admitted on ”Show + Tell.”
- She had to overcome her childhood attitude towards men to get up the gumption to propose – Tasma’s father left her as a young child, and she’d mostly grown up without a father influence in her life, plus had the misfortune of living with a violent man. Thus, the struggle to overcome her inhibitions before asking Rove to marry her. Tough chick, this.
- Tasma called Rove’s mother to ask for his hand in marriage – In a reverse of tradition, it was the woman who consulted the female parent before asking her man to marry her. Still, how sweet. All mothers should have a daughter-in-law like Tasma, don’t you think?
- Surprise, surprise: Tasma didn’t immediately feel the love when she first beheld daughter Ruby – How strange. Did the “Blue Heelers” actress have a touch of post-partum blues, or is her masculine side really raging strong within her? Fortunately, she’s become fiercely protective of her child once baby love set in.
