FOX has announced the debut date of “Backstrom,” the latest crime drama that stars Rainn Wilson (“The Office”). The show will kick off on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. For the latest update, the network has also released a new teaser for the series. Find out more about this by reading the news story below.
First reported back in July, “Backstrom” is from Hart Hanson. He also created one of FOX’s longest running crime drama “Bones.” The show is based on a Swedish novel written by Leif G.W. Persson, which was inspired by his work as a former criminologist.
“Backstrom” is an interesting study in character as the lead is quite set in his ways. That is, he’s rude and offensive, but he makes no apologies for it. He is a brilliant investigator, though, which is why despite the attitude, the police sees him as an asset.
Returning to the Portland force after five years of exile, Backstrom is tasked to head the Special Crimes Unit. Each week, he and his team will solve some pretty serious and unusual cases. He continues to adjust to his new job and responsibilities, so do his team members, who do not quite easily warm up to his attitude just yet.
Joining Wilson in the show are Dennis Haysbert (“The Unit”), Kristoffer Polaha (“Ringer”), Page Kennedy (“Blue Mountain State”), Genevieve Angelson (“House of Lies”) and Beatrice Rosen (“Pay Day”).
The show has been described as a crime procedural in the vein of “CSI,” with a lead character that is a lot like “House.” The vibe to “Backstrom” is quite offbeat and with Hanson’s history with FOX, it remains to be seen whether or not he can repeat his success with “Bones” with this new series. Will "Backstrom" also become a long-running program?
And that’s the latest from “Backstrom,” FOX’s latest crime drama that will be starting on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. Check out the new trailer released by the network in the video below.
