Movie lovers will now have something to cheer about in Hartford, Connecticut. Free Movies After Dark will be launched later this month. It will feature popular movies in different Hartford public parks every Friday night.
Shows will start with live entertainment from 7 p.m. until the opening credits. Those in attendance will be given free popcorn courtesy of Spotlight Cinemas, which is a soon-to-open theater on Front Street that will open in September. Bean bag chairs will be provided by Yogibo, which is chain store with three branches in Connecticut. Downtown Yoga will also be at the site to give a short yoga session before each movie.
Anchorman will be shown on July 27 in Bushnell Park. Before the film showing, a moustache contest will be held, where participants have to imitate the facial hair of the main character Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell). Radio station Hot 93.7 will provide the music for the pre-show entertainment while hula-hoop group The Beat City Hoop Girls will perform.
Kids will love Puss in Boots on August 3 in Pope Park. The pre-show will continue with the animal theme with Jonathan the UConn Husky dog and Pucky the Whale from the Connecticut Whale hockey team. The Connecticut Humane Society will talk about their adoption program and will bring some live animals. There will be face painting for kids before the showing of the animated feature.
Psycho is set to be shown on August 10 in Riverside Park. String Theorie will perform for the adult audience. A beer and wine garden will be on the site.
Jurassic Park will be shown on August 17 in Keney Park. Sea Tea Improv will perform their original comedic sketches and the Connecticut Science Center will lend their giant inflatable dinosaur for the event. People are encouraged to wear costumes for the film showing.
