Fresh Off the Boat Recap: 4444

Fresh Off the Boat” (FOTB) Episode 11 “Very Superstitious” aired on Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2015, at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. The episode kicks off with Jessica Huang entering the office to be given a condo to sell. Read on to know her reaction.

Jessica thinks selling condos is too easy. She demands for something more challenging. Instead, the Allen House, which has severe rodent and roof problem and disturbing murder history, is assigned to her.  Jessica really loves the challenge. However, when she found out that it is located at 44 West, 44 Street, the superstitious mother freaks out. The garbage man behind her explains to her colleague that four is bad luck in Chinese. Why? Because it sounds like death. Jessica agrees and demands that the guy must be promoted to “garbage boss.”

At school, Eddie is busy selling bootleg CDs. The new teacher – no – counselor “with a ponytail” stops him. He encourages Eddie to channel his hustler personality into something positive like running for class president. He promises free periods and a chance to welcome celebrities at school. By celebrities, Eddie immediately thinks of Shaquille O’Neal.

Jessica has decided to sell the Allen House to a couple. However, she does not want to go inside. She lets the couple take a look inside while she goes around the lot to scream the house’s features. Meanwhile, her three kids wait for her in the front yard. Eddie boasts perks of being a president such as free periods or Naps 101. Evan laughs so hard after comparing the term to “101 Dalmatians.”

After unconsciously discouraging a girl in voting for him, Eddie starts to feel hopeless with the strategies of his competitors like free chocolate tops, Streetfighter arcade and meet-and-greet with Scottie Pippen. Like Eddie, Scottie is also upset with kids preferring Jordan shoes than his Pippens.

Meanwhile, Louis watches a Golden Saddle commercial on TV. Turns out, Golden Saddle opens its new Kids Corral. Louis gets so envious. When Jessica arrived to present her commission check from the successful Allen House sale, he suddenly becomes hopeful. He wants to buy a mechanical bull for his restaurant while Jessica is excited to let a white woman pamper her in a spa. However, Jessica suddenly freaks out with the 4444 code on the check. Louis has no choice but to let Jessica tear it apart.

What Jessica does not know: Louis assembles the pieces again and presents the tattered check on banks. Luckily, the second bank accepts his check.

Inside the Cattleman’s Ranch, Louis proudly introduces the new mechanical bull. Mitch gets freaked out with its scary moo and red eyes.

After Louis successfully hid the bull from Jessica who left her kids in the restaurant, Evan tries his best to hold his pee. He tells his brothers that he does not want to miss a thing. His brothers find it ridiculous, so Evan decides to go to the restroom. When Eddie stood up to get some clam chowder, he suddenly trips on the bull.

In the car, Evan is so furious that he missed Eddie’s accident. Louis challenges him how long he can cover his ears. While Evan takes the challenge, Louis tells his other sons to rely on white lies so Jessica will not know about the bull. At home, Jessica worries about Eddie’s injury but is thankful with his luck that he did not break his neck.

Taking his father’s white lie advice by heart, Eddie starts spreading the news at school that he took down 16 people. Then he says his injury is from his father’s machete. With that, he wins the election.

Suddenly, a representative from child’s services and the ponytailed counselor visit the Huangs to investigate about Eddie’s injury. Eddie blames Louis for the white lie advice. He tells Jessica that there is a mechanical bull in the restaurant.

Upstairs, Jessica argues with Louis about her superstitions. She insists that the check was indeed unlucky. To prove that superstitions are legit, she takes Louis jade necklace. Louis gets hysterical without it, so he finally agrees with Jessica.

The next day, the counselor approaches Eddie to say that his free time is to lick envelopes in the principal’s office. He blames budget cuts.

Later, the Huang family gathers in the restaurant to let Grandma do a ritual to eliminate bad luck around the bull. The kids are amazed that Garfield mugs are used.

In the end, Louis beats Scottie in a basketball game after distracting him. Eddie also compares Scottie’s smaller foot size to Shaq. Scottie calls them a “rude-ass” family and walks out. Evan suddenly arrives from peeing and calls Scottie to come back. He decides to drink less water as he watches Scottie walking further.
