An interesting social experiment is introduced in the new episode of “Friends to Lovers?” Premiere “In Love with My Best Friend,” which aired last Jan. 12, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on Bravo.

The episode kicks off with the first couple Alex and Kris. They have been friends for eight years. They met at W Hotel for their first date. It was love at first sight for Alex. However, he was rejected and got “friendzoned.” He admits fantasizing about Kris.

On the other hand, Kris is aware all along about Alex’s feelings for her. She is also mindful about hurting him when she said they could only be friends. She confides that she is always looking at someone else, despite knowing that they are both attracted to each other. She knows they are complete opposites.

Alex meets Kris to hang out. Kris suddenly wants to take a picture of them to record the moment. Alex finds it childish. They start to argue about the pros and cons of taking a selfie. Alex has no choice but to smile as Kris extends her arm to take their photo.

Alex says that he had a romantic relationship for three years with another woman during his friendship with Kris. Six months ago, they broke up because he believed she was not the one.

The next couple is Jin and Sidney. They have a five-year friendship. Jin is a single mother. She is an entrepreneur. She insists not telling her age in front of the camera. She is divorced from the retired professional boxer Shane Mosley. Strangely, he still lives with her. However, he stays in the basement.

Sidney is a club promoter, so he is expected to be around girls most of the time. However, he starts to look for someone special. His greatest frustration is Jin. He likes that they are both aggressive. He admits that he does not want to see her with other guys.

In Jin’s house party, Sidney brings a date. Jin starts to ask him questions about the girl. Sidney thinks a date is needed because Jin also has her ex-husband. He feels that she is too interested with his love life. Suddenly, Jin secretly tells him that he has a thing for “dingy” girls. They start to argue briefly. From afar, Jin tells another friend that she feels Sidney is trying to make her jealous by dating different girls.

Marshana and Stefan are friends for four years. Marshana is a make-up artist and gets tired beautifying brides. She thinks New York men are difficult because they only like three types of girls — “new, newer and newest.” She promised herself to marry only once. She gets pressured when her girl friend got engaged.  She had known Stefan through an online dating site. After their first date, she got friendzoned.

Meanwhile, Alex invited Kris to see him work as an executive chef. Kris insists that she is the reason why Alex pursued his business. She is caught off-guard when Alex told her that he has a surprise for her. Turns out, he showed her two live lobsters.  Kris demands not to kill the lobsters in front of her. Alex tries to change the topic by letting her make a salad. They start to argue again about the proper way on putting the ingredients in the bowl.

As their heads are cooling down, Alex asks her if she is willing to go on a date with him. After pondering for a moment, Kris says yes.  While Alex is busy spreading the good news to his chefs, Kris gets nervous because she thinks it is “terrifying” for their friendship.

The homosexual couple in the show is Charley and Darion. They have been best friends for five years. Charley is having a big crush on Darion ever since. He had a five-year relationship with someone else, but they broke up because he got busy with his career. He feels pressured because his other friends already settled down with their partners. Of all men, he is happy with Darion.

“Everything works with him,” Charley says.

The only thing that is holding Charley back is their friendship.

Marshana helps Stefan look for the right furniture. Stefan admits liking Marshana, but he hates that she plays hard to get. That is why their first date did not become successful. Marshana feels there were signs because they were talking on the phone all the time during Stefan’s long intimate relationship with someone else. Stefan admits that he is always attracted to Marshana but never sees them as more than friends.

Kris gets frazzled while preparing for her date with Alex. She expects that it will be a “disaster” because she already has a difficult time with her contact lens in the bathroom.

Charley and Darion meet in a forest. Darion says that he is attracted to Charley ever since because he is “cute.” Because he is the geeky type, Darion starts to make jokes about superpowers. Charley leads his best friend to the beautiful view of Los Angeles near a cliff to surprise him. He asks Darion if they can be more than friends. Darion is willing to try it.

In an Italian restaurant, Jin and Sidney are on a date. Jin talks about Sidney’s date in the party. Sidney tells her that he already ended it with the girl because they are just friends. When Jin told Sidney that she is still living with Shane, Sidney is surprised. However, he feels that Shane is already giving them his “blessing” when he told him that he can date his ex-wife. Finally, he asks Jin to try taking their relationship to the next level. While looking at her, he thinks “she is the one.”

While waiting for Kris, Alex remembers that she took great care of him when his mother died. She bought him lunch and gave him flowers. He admits that he has been thinking about her all the time even if he was in a relationship. Finally, Kris turns the corner and walks graciously toward Alex.

How will their date turn out? Catch the next episode on Jan. 26, 2015.
