TMZ has gotten hold of documents revealing that Spencer Lacey Ganus made just $926 for her voice-over work in Disney's “Frozen.” Ganus did a few lines in the early scenes that feature teenage Elsa, while Eva Bella and Idina Menzel did the voice-over work for the younger and older Elsa, respectively. However, TMZ pointed out that Ganus was given a one-day guaranteed payment.
Disney's “Frozen” made $1.2 billion at the box office, dethroning “Toy Story 3” as the biggest earning animated film for the studio. The studio made a handsome profit, considering that the production budget was $150 million. It is the 10th highest grossing film in cinema history. However, Ganus' pay is only .000077 percent of that amount.
She has also done some voice-over for other Disney films like “Ice Age” and “Happy Feet.”
However, it is unclear if the voice actress is suing Disney for the dismal pay check, as the documents were filed in court.
“Frozen” received commercial and critical success since its release. The film won two Oscars: one for Best Animated Feature, and another for Best Original Song. Broadway veteran Menzel performed “Let It Go” during the awards ceremony. The song also reached #1 at the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
The story is based on “The Snow Queen,” a folk tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The animated film revolves around Elsa, a princess who can conjure ice magic at will.
The film was recently in the news amid speculations that a sequel, “Strange Magic,” was in the works. Rumors began when Disney started buying domain names for the film title.
However, Disney announced that “Strange Magic” will be another animated film under Lucasfilm Ltd. The animated musical is based on William Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream.”
Meanwhile, the studio did confirm the release of “Frozen Fever,” a short sequel that will hit theaters in 2015.
