Currently, “Game of Thrones” Season 6 is underway and the HBO hit series really garnered millions of viewers all over the world. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, the TV series adaptation of the show is likely to continue until Season 8 – and that’s it… maybe.
During the TCA 2015, HBO president Michael Lombardo tackled “Game of Thrones” run on the network, he was asked if the series would run seven seasons, “That’s definitely open. I think seven seasons and out has never been the conversation. The question is how much beyond the seventh season are we going to do. At this point, obviously we’re shooting 6 now, hopefully discussing 7. I think they’re feeling like there’s probably two more years after 6,” he answered.
Lombardo also made it clear that the network is hoping that there will be more seasons to “Game of Thrones” but as of now, they are looking at 8 seasons yet open to the possibility of more.
He also talked about the possibility of a prequel to “Game of Thrones and he said, “I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do about ‘Game of Thrones’ or almost any subject matter. It really would depend fully for us on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel if George and Dan and David decided they wanted to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on figuring out the next few years with this show so we haven’t had any conversation about that at this point.”
