Liam Neeson is the awesomely named “Revenger” in the upcoming action-comedy helmed by “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer. While Neeson has already been “revengin’” his way through most of the European crime world over the last years, this movie will see the Irish actor’s return to comedy. Read on for more details.
“The Revenger” is based on a script by TV’s Thomas Lennon (“Archer”, “New Girl”) and Robert Ben Garant, the team that have written such excellent films as “Night at the Museum” and also such appalling drivel like “The Pacifier.” The film has been acquired by Universal, who have brought Fleischer, of “Zombieland” and “Gangster Squad” fame, Variety is reporting.
While plot summary and the logline is being kept currently under wraps, we can extrapolate from Fleischer’s last movies that there is going to be an awfully lot of running by Neeson, some honestly terrible jokes delivered dead-pan, and possibly a Jesse Eisenberg cameo hidden somewhere.
Neeson has a very particular set of skills, skills he has acquired over the last six years playing the same elderly action hero character in all his films. Consider for example, “Taken,” “Run All Night,” “A Walk Among The Tombstones” and “Non-Stop” all of which have Neeson in his ‘perilous pensioner’ character, kicking ass and taking names with apparent unconcern for the sixty odd years behind him. It is getting hard to take this seriously, and Neeson seems to agree with this next offering.
Recent photos of the 63-year-old actor have surfaced online and show Neeson looking gaunt, after having dropped almost 60lb. It is not known whether the starving look is in preparation for a new movie, but a publicist for Neeson has confirmed that the actor is “is lean and mean and very healthy,” according to Hollywood Life.
