Just barely a week away ’til the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” But while we, mere fans, have to wait until December 18, a select few have already seen the full movie. One of those is, of course, Star Wars creator George Lucas. And according to reports, he loved the final cut.
George Lucas have had a love-hate relationship with the Galaxy far, far away that he’s created. While rabid fans loved and raved about the original trilogy, they have sometimes been a bit too harsh about the later prequel trilogies. When Lucas took liberties with the world he created himself (like changing who shot first at the Chalmun’s Cantina, a.k.a. Mos Eisley Cantina), the Internet went crazy criticising him for wanting to ruin an already good franchise.
But even so, respect must go out to the man from whom the whole Star Wars universe came from. And so whether he thinks the Force is truly awake in the seventh installment is still a very important opinion, which is why he was invited to the premiere of “The Force Awakens.”
The verdict? “He really liked it,” says Lucasfilm president and “The Force Awakens” producer Kathleen Kennedy to The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s not much and even a bit held back but it does mean Lucas is on board. Despite his “divorce” from the franchise, in which he’d rather stay far away than not be completely in control, the 71-year old filmmaker looks like he is finally satisfied with the direction the epic space opera is going.
Lucas now joins the small circle of people who has seen the final cut of the movie. Joining him in this elite group are Steven Spielberg and star of all Star Wars film Harrison Ford.
While it seems everybody has reasons to envy these three, the good news is that they don’t have long to wait to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The epic saga continues on theatres starting December 18.
