According to USA Today, the latest episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 5, Episode 6 “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” has caused quite a violent reaction from the viewers particularly because of what happened with Sansa Stark. George R.R. Martin, the author of the books, has something to say. Read below for the full details.
Just when we thought that Sansa Stark is reaching the peak of her story, she then got brutally raped by Ramsay Bolton, her new husband. It was done in front of Theon Greyjoy. There is an ongoing outcry because fans would like to see justice for Sansa’s character who has always been manipulated and never had the chance to speak all throughout the episodes.
Fans point fingers at George R.R. Martin as he is the author of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series where the TV series was based from. However, we are all aware that it has been announced that the TV series will give the story several twists and turns for entertainment purposes. It simply means that creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss are not following by the book anymore. Still, Martin spoke up about this issue on his blog.
“The show is the show, the books are the books; they are two different tellings of the same story. There have been differences between the novels and television show since the first episode of season one. And for just as long, I have been talking about the butterfly effect. Small changes lead to larger changes lead to huge changes. HBO is more than forty hours into the impossible and demanding task of adapting my lengthy (extremely) and complex (exceedingly) novels, with their layers of plots and subplots, their twists and contradictions and unreliable narrators, viewpoint shifts and ambiguities, and a cast of characters in the hundreds.”
However, most fans are not enraged by the changes in the story on the TV series but rather they approve of Sansa’s character and integrity. Fans feel like Sansa’s character should finally rise above everything that she’s been through and start making changes. Well, I really want to see a much fiercer Sansa!
