Read on to learn more about this episode.
After Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza) and Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch) met up with Rudy Walters (Jack Mikesell), they discussed the possibility that Rebecca Sutter (Katie Findlay) had murdered Lila Stangard (Megan West), which was why he told them that she was “wet” that night, and that would also explain why Rebecca had him committed to a mental institution. However, Laurel told Wes that they couldn’t confront Rebecca about what they knew yet because she might turn against them and tell the police that they had murdered Sam Keating (Tom Verica). She also told him that they could only let Annelise Keating (Viola Davis) know about this after they had more evidence to prove that Rebecca really killed Lila.
Back in his apartment, he entered his house to find Rebecca waiting for him. However, Wes told her that nothing was wrong, and that he loved her. Rebecca also didn’t tell him that she had known the entire time where he was, and the two slept together.
Meanwhile, a flashback revealed that on the day that Lila died, she had gone to Rebecca’s room, and argued with her, which was overheard by Rudy, as the apartment’s walls were very thin. Lila argued with Rebecca, and told her that she was done dealing drugs, and never wanted to see her again as everything bad that had happened to her had started after she met Rebecca. She then stormed out of the room, and told Rebecca that she was getting back together with her boyfriend, Griffin O’ Reilly (Lenny Platt). Afterwards, Rebecca shouted at Rudy, who had opened the door as he had become curious about what was going on.
Back in the present day, Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee) tried to sleep with Oliver (Conrad Ricamora), but Oliver stopped him, and insisted that they get themselves tested for HIV, just in case.
Meanwhile, at court, Bonnie Winterbottom (Liza Weil) arrived late at the courtroom where she and Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) observed the bail hearing of former Detective Nate Lahey (Billy Borwn). Afterwards, they informed Annelise that the judge presiding over the case had just refused Nate bail. Afterwards, Father Andrew Crawford (Tom Everett Scott), Annelise’s new client, showed up for their case.
Inside the courtroom, Father Andrew refused to plead not guilty, but as soon as he saw a woman that he worked with, named Agnes Willis (Lilli Birdsell), enter, he decided to change his plea to not guilty, and told Annelise that he and Agnes were not together. Annelise then told the court that Father Andrew had changed his mind regarding how he pled, and that it had been her fault when he had entered his first plea, because she was dealing with her own personal crisis at the time. Thankfully, the judge allowed them to change the plea to not guilty.
Meanwhile, a flashback revealed that on the night that Lila died, Rebecca had dealt drugs in Griffin’s fraternity house which was having a party that night. She then asked him for a tour of the house, after which, he left her in his room, while he went to get her a glass of water. While he was gone, she texted Lila using his phone. She posed as Griffin, and told her to come over. After Griffin came back, Rebecca kissed him, and the two started to sleep with each other when Lila came in. After seeing him on top of Rebecca, she went after both of them, and ran out of the fraternity house. Griffin then looked at Rebecca, who smiled.
Back in the present day, Wes told Laurel that he was going through the transcripts of Rebecca’s first police interview. According to the interview, Rebecca had said that she had gone home after Lila had caught her with Griffin. However, according to the seemingly coerced confession tape, Rebecca had said that she had gone to the sorority house instead of the apartment. However, when Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King) asked them what was going on, they lied and told her that Laurel was just ranting to Wes about her boyfriend. Michaela then told them that they had to all go to Father Andrew’s church in order to help work on the case.
There, they discovered several things. First of all, they discovered that one of the parishoners had suspected Father Andrew of killing Father Bernard with the thurball which held the incense, as he had heard the two priests arguing that week. Annelise then discovered from Agnes that she loved Father Andrew, but they had never acted on their impulses, as they couldn’t.
Michaela, Connor and Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry) then learned from one of the students that a student whom Father Andrew had spent a lot of time in the dark room with, as they both did photography, named Brian Caymans, had committed suicide just a few days before.
After confronting Father Andrew with this information, Annelise learned that Father Andrew had killed Father Bernard as he had discovered that Brian was being abused by Father Bernard. He had learned that it was Father Bernard as he had confessed it to him in the Sacrament of Confession. However, he refused to let them use the fact that Father Bernard had confessed it to him, because it would break the sacramental seal. Annelise then reassured him that she would win his case for him, no matter what.
As they all tried to find the best angle to work with, Laurel went over to Wes in the kitchen, who was going over the detective’s notes of the night of the murder. He then told Laurel that he had discovered that there had been an eyewitness who had been able to place Rebecca at the sorority house thirty minutes to one hour after Lila had left the fraternity house, but it had never come up as actual evidence because the eyewitness hadn’t picked out Rebecca’s picture from the line up of pictures given to him.
However, this eyewitnesses testimony matched the story on the confession tape. Laurel then encouraged him to answer his phone, as Rebecca was calling him, so that she wouldn’t get suspicious. She told him that she loved him, and that she was going to be late as she had to pick up an extra shift that night, but in reality, she was heading towards the campus police’s head office.
Back at the office, Annelise asked Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber) if his connection in the local prison was still good, and because of this, later that night, Nate was beaten up pretty bad.
The next day, Oliver and Connor went to the clinic to get tested. However, Connor left first as he had some work to do, and wished Oliver good luck.
Bonnie then informed Annelise that she had realized that they had set things up so that Nate would be beaten up badly in prison so that he could be sent home. However, Bonnie informed her that her plan had backfired as Nate had been placed in solitary instead.
Annelise then called up Asher, and Frank and Bonnie convinced him to talk to the judge presiding over Nate’s case, by telling him that that judge had something to do with the Father Andrew case. While he talked to the judge, a friend of his father’s, Frank took pictures of them having a conversation. Meanwhile, Annelise convinced Agnes to help Father Andrew out, by testifying in court that she and Father Andrew had been together during the night of Father Bernard’s death, as they had been having an affair with each other.
During their recess, Connor waited around nervously for the nurse to call him with his results, while Laurel called up Wes, who was trying to test to see if the timeline given in the confession was right by timing how long it took for one to walk from Griffin’s fraternity house to Lila’s sorority house, and it did check out.
A flashback then showed that Rebecca had gone to the sorority house after Lila had walked in on them, and that she had tried to call Lila to apologize to her, as she had only done that to show Lila that Griffin wasn’t worth it.
Back at court, since Agnes began to lie on the stand about details regarding her and Father Andrew’s affair, he plead guilty on the charge of first degree murder; told Agnes that he didn’t love her, and apologized to Annelise for being a horrible client.
Connor became jubilant after learning that he had tested negative for HIV. Michaela told him that Wes and Laurel were having a heated discussion about something, and walked in on them. There, they learned that it was because of Wes’ newfound knowledge, as he had wanted to confront Rebecca to find out if she really did kill Lila. Afterwards, Michaela asked Wes where Rebecca was.
Meanwhile, after Frank informed Annelise and Bonnie that a new judge had replaced Judge Redding on Nate’s case and that Nate had been released on bail, Annelise went to see Nate, and asked her to call the number she had given him. It turned out that Nate’s lawyer had been given the pictures of Asher talking to Redding, and he had used that against her to step down from the case.
After learning about this, Asher confronted Bonnie about this, who told him that it had just been a coincidence, and told her that he would still come over that night. However, they were overheard by Frank, who revealed that he knew that the two of them were sleeping with each other.
At Rebecca’s and Wes’ apartment, Laurel, Connor, Michaela and Wes confronted Rebecca about what really happened the night that Lila was killed, and the truth about Rudy. Michaela then told her not to look at Wes, and told her that her wedding had been called off because of her, and that they knew that she had overdosed Rudy so that he would be an unreliable witness as he had seen her soaking wet that night.
After Wes told her to answer whether she killed Lila or not, she told them that she had discovered that the campus cop that had seen them that night had been fired, and now lives in Delaware, and threatened them with that. Hence, they bound and gagged her with duct tape, and placed her in Wes’ bathroom. They then called Annelise, who then demanded to know what was going on. Laurel then opened the bathroom door to reveal Rebecca inside the bathroom, bound and gagged.
