Did anyone ever really doubt that Disney was going to let “Frozen” go? A few days after directors’ Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck pronouncements that a sequel is not happening, Disney confirmed during its shareholders meeting that it will be making “Frozen 2.” Read on for more.
Disney’s Chief Creative Officer for Animation John Lasseter and Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, made the official announcement for “Frozen 2.” The sequel will still be directed by Buck and Lee, and it is assumed that the original voice actors will also be returning.
In fact, Josh Gad, who provided the voice for Olaf in the film, was actually at the shareholders meeting and did a bit about begging Iger to do the sequel. Kristen Bell, who provided the voice for Anna, immediately posted a message on her Twitter expressing her excitement on hearing about this plan. The news arrives as the short film “Frozen Fever” is set to make its debut in theaters during the premiere of “Cinderella,” the live-action adaptation.
“We enjoyed making Frozen Fever so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said Lasseter in a statement published in various news sites. The chief executive also said that the directors of the movie have already come up with “a great idea” for the follow-up, which will take the audience back to the magical world in Arendelle.
The movie’s release date and plot details have yet to be divulged.
Following the announcement of the sequel today, Disney released a new song from “Frozen Fever” entitled “Making Today a Perfect Day.” It features Bell and Idina Menzel, who provided the voice for Elsa, Menzel catching cold is right now being a hindrance and getting in the way of making a perfect birthday for Anna.
Currently available on iTunes, the song was written by the Lopez pair, Robert and Kristen, who also wrote “Let It Go” and the rest of the songs from the movie. “Frozen Fever” is also directed by Buck and Lee.
