“Girl Meets World” Season 1 Episode 18 “Girl Meets the Master Plan” aired last Friday, Jan. 17, 2015, at 7:20 p.m. on the Disney Channel. In this episode, for Maya Hart’s (Sabrina Carpenter) 14th birthday, Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and her father, Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), with the help of everyone else, came up with a plan to give Maya the best birthday ever by setting up Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) with Maya’s mother, Katy Hart (Cheryl Texiera). Read on to learn more about this episode.

Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) was greeted by her best friend, Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), with boxes within boxes, which revealed a small box, which contained two friendship rings as Maya’s birthday present — one for her and one for Riley. Riley, however, got upset and tried to leave the window seat in order to confront Maya’s mother, Katy (Cheryl Texiera), who seemed to have forgotten that it was Maya’s birthday, as she had taken an early shift at the diner she worked at.

They were then delighted to have found Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) on the couch in the living room, as he had dropped by to visit since he had been in town due to his work. He then couldn’t believe that Maya’s mom had forgotten all about her birthday. Cory and Topanga (Daniel Fischel) then came in with Maya’s birthday cake. Cory then accidentally said that he had bought a birthday cake for her just in case her mom forgot and was sure about it, as he had grown up with Shawn, whose mother had forgotten where he had lived. Topanga then made him realize that both Maya and Shawn were there, behind him. Upon seeing Shawn, Cory tossed the cake in the air, which Topanga caught, in order to hug his best friend.

After learning that Shawn had a key to the apartment, Cory reassured Topanga that she had the key to his heart. Afterwards, Riley and Maya forced Shawn to tell them about Angela, his girlfriend, whom he had met after going through her purse, which was considered romantic in high school. He then told them that Angela left him sine then. Maya then realized that she and him had a lot in common, as they both always kept on getting left behind by people. Because of this, Riley had an idea and forced Cory and Topanga to go to the window seat inside her room.

There, after making sure that her father was the king of schemes before, got him out of retirement to plan the biggest scheme yet — to set up Shawn with Maya’s mother. They then enlisted Lucas Friar (Peyton Meyer) and Farkle Minkus’ (Corey Fogelmanis) help, who had a watch that told him things in either Riley or Maya’s voice, in order to get things done.

When they all went out, Shawn and Maya became suspicious of what they had been talking about. Maya forced Riley, Lucas and Farkle into Riley’s room; and Shawn forced Topanga and Cory into their bedroom. Shawn then couldn’t believe that Cory did not become Maya’s father figure and that he wouldn’t talk to Katy about missing out on Maya’s birthday. He then decided to go the Nighthawk Diner where she worked, after Topanga gave him the address.

In Riley’s room, Lucas distracted Maya and tied her up, cowboy style, and left her there.

At the diner, Cory and Riley peeked behind the diner’s menus in order to see how Shawn and Katy’s meet up would go. There, he criticized her parenting skills and learned that they both had something in common — they both keep on getting left behind by people. It turned out that Maya’s father had walked out on them, and she had kept that from her. It also turned out that she had been getting extra shifts in order to pay for Maya’s gift — a locket which would hold a picture of both of them.

Back at the apartment, Riley untied Maya, who was still upset at her for setting everything up. In the living room, Shawn told Maya that her father left Katy and that she was one of them. They then reconciled, and the two hugged. Shawn then took a picture of both, after Shawn handed her the locket which was inside her purse. Shawn then bragged about the success of his scheme and partnered up with Maya as his new partner in crime, as Cory had a new partner — Riley. Maya then blew out the candles on her cake. But before that, she wished for something —  she looked at Shawn and her mother, who were standing beside each other.

Later that night, Maya had Lucas tie Riley up so that she would know how it felt to be all tied up.
