Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 6 “Rule 33: When in Doubt, Run Away” aired on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. The ladies head to Vegas to unwind, but the roadtrip was not what they expected. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.

Phoebe (Beau Garrett) invites Abby (Lisa Edelstein) and Delia (Necar Zadegan) to Las Vegas for a baby convention. She figures this would be the best time to launch her new business, which involves fine jewelry for babies. Besides, it would be great for the ladies to have a little weekend fun. Abby needs to chill out after all that publicity Cleo Stevens was doing at her expense. Also, the fact that her young editor is still asking her to come up with brand new ideas for a book. All tapped out, she thinks Mellow Vegas will be her therapy.

But Abby tells Lyla (Janeane Garofalo) about the trip, forgetting that she and Phoebe still have issues to settle between them. When they find Lyla in the limo that is driving them to Vegas, Phoebe is taken aback. Delia, too, since she and Lyla do not exactly get along due to tensions at work.

Phoebe: Everything has been so difficult with her recently and with the photoshoot, a fight is the last thing I need.
Delia: And she hates me!
Abby: She’s going to a hideous custody battle. Maybe this trip is exactly what she needs.

Abby is so optimistic this trip will do all of them some good.

Meanwhile, Jake (Paul Adelstein) is at some sort of wilderness camp with Becca (Julianna Guill). Earlier, she asked him to join her with her “guru” because she thinks they need to connect. Their sex life has been purely physical lately. Now, Becca wants them to open their hearts to each other. Jake isn’t enjoying this retreat, which involves cleansing and purification. At one point, he even shouts that all he really wants to do right now is to go back home and go back to directing.

Back in the car to Vegas, the girls are already tipsy from the alcohol and a little bit high from the pot lollipops. Abby pauses to read and watch stuff on her iPad about Cleo Stevens. She starts to get worked up about how Cleo keeps attacking her and she brings this mindset to the hotel even as the girls try to enjoy lounging at the pool.

They receive drinks from Cleo, who’s apparently at the baby convention as guest speaker. Later, as the girls are in the quiet room after a spa treatment, Abby is still obsessing about her nemesis. She can’t believe the bullcrap she’s been pitching on her Youtube channel. She’s practically freaking out and freaking the other guests at the spa that they were asked to leave the premises. Some chill-out session this was turning out!

Abby thinks Mellow Vegas isn’t helping her, so she switches to Party Vegas. Bring on the alcohol! Apparently, when Abby is hammered, she’s a lot more fun to be around with. But she’s also kind of a jinx at the blackjack table. So, she leaves her friends to win more money at the casino, while she has time alone with her wine and pizza.

However, a man approaches, thinking he’ll get lucky and Abby starts becoming uncomfortable. Thankfully, a handsome man saves her from the weirdo and introduces himself as Carl. He turns out to be an escort guy. Will she want to pay Carl for his services?

Abby obliges, but only so that she and Carl could talk. She’s fascinated by his line of work. Maybe she could write a book about it. But to be fair, Carl’s very easy to talk to and quite insightful, too. Abby learned a lot from him.

The next morning, she wakes up next to Carl, still fully clothed as they really just spent the night talking. After she’s done paying him for his services, Abby encounters a journalist who’s about to join Cleo’s talk at the convention. Just like Carl, the journalist thinks that Cleo is full of hogwash and she’s curious about Abby’s reaction of her attacks. Does she have something she wants to tell Cleo? But Abby declines and says that all she wants is to wish Cleo the best.

Journalist: She called you irrelevant.
Abby: Yup, and the truth is I found it validating. Because no one truly interesting is universally liked.

Abby learned that from Carl. He’s really insightful, right?

Next, she finds the girls packing their stuff, but they’re not talking to each other. Apparently, except for Abby, they all had a really bad Party Vegas experience after Abby left.

Let’s backtrack a little. While Abby was with Carl…

  • Delia had a strange encounter with a relative. Of all places, she has an encounter with her uncle at the casino. She didn’t want to talk about why she’s been hiding from family, despite Lyla’s insistence that they are friends now and they can confide in each other. She and Lyla actually fought, when the latter was just trying to help.
  • Phoebe had a rough pictorial. She came to this unprepared, which pissed off the photographer. Plus, one of the babies choked on her jewelry line. It looks like this business has closed shop even before it started.
  • Lyla was completely on the edge the whole time, as she waited for the case worker’s verdict on her custody battle. And when she finally got the text message, it was a huge blow — 70-30 in favor of her husband. She’s going to lose her kids.

The girls try to rally around Lyla. They haven’t realized that she had legitimate reasons to be angry, vindictive and just overall a negative person to be with. But Lyla didn’t want to be with her friends right now; they all let her down. She wants to get home to her kids pronto. When she did get home, she asks her children if they want to getaway. Is Abby going to literally take the kids away from her ex?

When Abby gets home, she surprisingly sees Jake in her house, wearing the top of his wedding tuxedo and nothing on the bottom, and he’s still pretty high from the cleansing retreat. All he really wants is to go home, remember? Home for Jake was Abby. As she’s still also hung-over, the two end up kissing passionately. So, does this mean they’re back together?

That’s what happened on “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 6 “Rule 33: When in Doubt, Run Away” which aired on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. What do you think? Based on what’s coming next, getting “reunited” with Jake might mean trouble. Would you love them to be together though?
