Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 8 “Rule No. 17: Ask the Answer Lady” aired on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. Abby’s friend from college arrives, and she finally pitches the theme for her next book. It’s actually good! Find out what happened in the recap below.

The episode opens with Abby (Lisa Edelstein) struggling to come up with good sections to write for her next book. Last week, her editor suggested that she write about divorce. She realized that coming up with a theme and idea, even as she knows the subject matter by now, is actually hard. She’s extra fidgety because she’s supposed to pitch this in front of the publishing company’s board. She has to sell the idea, or else she’s out of a book deal. Pressure!

But the day is only getting started. Her friend Jo (Alana Ubach) arrives early from Detroit to stay with her for a while. On the other hand, Abby’s young son’s imaginary friend is testing her patience. She can’t work and take care of him at the same time. To make matters worse, Charlie spills a drink on her laptop. It actually fried the important documents she has been working on. Can this day get any worse?

She seeks help from Jake (Paul Adelstein) to babysit their youngest. Only, he’s starting a new job, working as a director on Becca’s (Julianna Guill) TV show on The CW. When she actually goes to the set to ask for his help, he turns her down. Though, Jake is within reasons. It was because he used to take care of the kids while Abby built up her brand. Now that he has found a good paying job, Abby needs to figure out how to settle the domestic matters herself.

Her friends are of no help to her too. It was because Lyla is now in another state, and Phoebe (Beau Garrett) is dealing with huge stuff herself. She actually proceeds with the launch of her baby jewelry line and then asks her ex-husband’s new girlfriend to help her with the event. When the latter discovers that she’s actually Ralph’s former wife, it all became clearer. It also became clearer to Phoebe that Ralph is with the new girl now, and he’s clearly in love with her. Her insecurity and jealousy are eating her alive.

On the other hand, Delia (Necar Zadegan) has a work and personal matter to handle. It makes it really complicated as her work and her personal life involve only one person: her latest client, Mr. Beech. She’s representing him in a big divorce settlement, and the ex-wife finds out that they’ve been seeing each other on the side. The ex-wife uses this as leverage to get what he wants, or else she will have Delia disbarred.

Meanwhile, Max (Patrick Heusinger), Abby’s brother, has a relationship crisis again. He thinks that his marriage is in big trouble. His husband, however, brushes all of these aside, downplaying everything. What will happen to these two?

Jo is not of great help to Abby either, and the circumstances of her coming to town will have to be explored in succeeding episodes. But for now it’s established that Jake doesn’t really like her. He thinks that she’s not an ideal babysitter for little Charlie. She lets the young boy watch “Games of Thrones!” She is, however, of great help to Abby when it came to restoring some of her files from the computer. Thank goodness, Abby can get back to working on her pitch!

Jo is also harsh and brutally honest. As Abby’s oldest friend, she knows her inside out. When Abby presents her pitch to both her and Phoebe, she tells it like it is. She suggests that Abby discuss the realities of what she’s going through with the divorce.

And that’s what Abby did when she made her pitch to the board. She comes to the meeting with her youngest child in tow and tells the board how she’s not getting it together as a divorcee; how she doesn’t have the right answers. She enumerates what has happened in her life so far — sleeping with a much younger man, hiring an escort guy and learning her teenage daughter experimented with vodka and tampons. It has been crazy and her transition to a new life isn’t done. This is what she wants to write about, to expose her real feelings. The board loves the idea!

Abby walks away from the meeting feeling really proud of herself. It started out as a stressful day, but now, things are looking up.
