Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 3 “Rule No. 47:  Take Advantage of ‘Me’ Time” aired on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. Officially separated, Abby (Lisa Edelstein) and Jake (Paul Adelstein) try to work out their schedules and routines with the kids, as they now have two different homes.

This episode opened with Jake picking up the kids at Abby’s place. They engage in small talk and the mood is civil. It was until she reminded him that he has never gotten around to fixing a window before, and now she’s left to deal with it. She also reminded Jake about the rules with this new set-up. The top rule being is that they should never introduce their children to their significant other unless that person has indeed become significant.

Later, Abby’s having coffee with her girls. She expressed how free she felt. In fact, she has all the time to herself now and she will use this to discuss new book ideas with her editor. Phoebe (Beau Garrett) thought was lame. Later, Abby receives a gift from her “Phoebe-godmother.” It had sex toys in it, so she can enjoy her "me" time better.

Lyla (Janeane Garofalo), meanwhile, told her friends that she will have to sign up for story time at her kids’ school, much as she would like not to. She needed to win points with the judge because her husband just filed for full custody of the kids.

But Lyla actually had to skip story time because of work demands. She had an opportunity to win points with a client. She had to grab it before any of the other lawyer sharks does.  It sucks to be a single parent with an army to support. In her place, she sent the nanny to do story time.

At Jake’s house, Abby’s brother is actually there. He helping him set it up so that the kids will feel more at home. It’s been established that Max (Patrick Heusinger) and Jake were friends first before Jake and Abby married. Max confessed that he’s feeling a slight tinge of guilt helping out his friend, but should he also be part of the divorce? His husband, Ford (J. August Richards), urges him to stay out of this mess.

So, the kids are hanging out with their dad and things quickly got boring. He’s running out of ideas to please them. He wants so badly for his children to enjoy their first weekend at dad’s place. So, he called up his TV star girlfriend Becca (Julianna Guill) to join them. Whatever happened to the top rule about having significant others meet the kids? Jake didn’t care. Lilly is already overjoyed as she’s a big fan of Becca’s show.

Off they went to the bowling alley, with Lilly posting photos of her with Becca on her social media accounts. Max sees this and realizes Jake has violated the top rule. But, as advised by Ford, he won’t say a word and he will stay out of it. However, Ford also sees Lilly’s photos and forgets his own advice. He’d like for him and his husband to join Jake and the kids, please. Apparently, Ford is also a huge fan of Becca.

Meanwhile, Abby just had a disappointing meeting with her editor. She basically told her that, following her very public meltdown, the “Girlfriends Guide” book franchise is officially dead. Would she be up for writing about menopause instead? Abby got home and quickly hit the keyboards on her laptop with ideas. But she can’t come up with any. She tried everything, including dancing almost-naked to get her creative juices flowing.

But walking around the house in just her underwear made her feel cold. So, she tried to close the windows, only to have her hands caught on the one window that Jake forgot to fix. She was stuck and she was facing her neighbors half naked.  But thankfully the paramedics and her girlfriends arrived nearly at the same time to help her. Embarrassing situation saved!

Now settled in with her girlfriends, her “me” time became a time to bond with the girls as they smoked a joint in Lilly’s bedroom. They were staring at the poster of Becca Riley, which the actress gave Lilly in Episode 2: “Rule 174: Never Trust Anyone Who Charges By the Hour” (air date: Dec. 9, 2014). They just saw photos of Lilly on Instagram, so Abby knew Jake broke the rule. Her brother was even in on it!

High from the doobie they were hitting, Lyla, Phoebe and Abby defaced Becca’s poster. Later, Abby realized that her daughter will hate her for it when she gets home. So, they frantically searched for a new poster to replace the one they vandalized. Around LA they went, but the poster was an elusive find because it’s a limited edition. Tough luck!

However, Abby’s lawyer friend and Lyla’s nemesis, Delia (Necar Zadegan), helped them. She’s the lawyer for the show’s executive producer and so she was able to produce the poster. Before the night was done, Abby was able to replace the one they defaced in Lilly’s room. Will her daughter notice the slight difference? Hopefully, not.

When the children returned home the next day, Abby was slightly worried Lilly would find out it’s a different poster hanging by her bed.  But Lilly hardly noticed this at all as she has taken it down. She didn’t need the poster.  She intended to replace the wall with photos of her and Becca from last night. Becca just made Lilly very popular with her friends.

Meanwhile, Abby talked to Jake about breaking the rule, but he reasoned he broke nothing. He’s getting serious with Becca, which hit Abby hard.

She also talked to her brother Max. He apologized to her for feeling like she doesn’t have his back. Abby’s a lot more understanding with him, but also expressed she needed emotional support from him. Max promised he would give and the two hug it out.

The final scene of the episode featured Lyla. She was asked to come to her son’s school to discuss how she sent the nanny for what would have been her responsibility. But Lyla gave her son’s teacher a mouthful about having to work hard to support her lifestyle as a high profile lawyer. She had to do it because she’s in a midst of an expensive divorce and her husband was not even supporting her financially with their son. She demanded from the teachers never to ask her back in school again.

And that’s what happened on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 3 “Rule No. 47: Take Advantage of ‘Me’ Time” which aired on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. What did you think of this third installment? Are you warming up to the girls now?
