Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” Season 1 Episode 7 “Rule No. 67: Don’t Kill the Princess” aired on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on Bravo. There’s going to be a big birthday party at Abby’s, as her daughter, Lily, turns 14. But the preparations is stressing out Abby for many reasons. Read on for the recap.

How hard is it to set up a party for a teenager these days, huh? For one thing, Lilly (Conner Dwelly) wants different things at her celebration. She even invites Becca Riley (Julianna Guill), Jake’s (Paul Adelstein) young actress girlfriend, to be there. Her mother Abby (Lisa Edelstein) isn’t comfortable with this. For another thing, Abby’s house is showing signs of a cracked foundation, which her brother Max (Patrick Heusinger) says doesn’t need to be immediately fixed (it costs $20,000!), but it should not be ignored too. The foundation may as well be a metaphor for Abby’s marriage and divorce woes.

She talks to Jake about disinviting Becca from the party, which her soon-to-be ex-husband isn’t sure how to tell his girlfriend, but he tells her anyway. Becca isn’t happy about it, saying she really cares about Jake and the people in his life. The two argue, and she basically decides she’s not going to Lily’s party anymore.

But then, the party is a total bust, and Lilly is still upset at her mom for not allowing her favorite TV star and “best friend” to come over. Abby and her friends, Phoebe (Beau Garrett) and Delia (Necar Zadegan), see that the kids aren’t having a great time, so Abby caves and calls the actress. Minutes later, Becca appears, and all the teenagers light up.

However, just as the party is picking up, a tragedy strikes. The older women wonder in panic as to why the younger girls are all jumping into the pool, showing signs of pain. Lily admits that for kicks, they soaked tampons with vodka and inserted these in their vaginas. Abby is aghast and asks her friends, including Jake and Becca, to search the whole house for the booze. The teenagers’ parents were also called to pick up their kids. It’s an embarrassing and unfortunate incident, and Lily is apologetic and mortified.

That night, she and her mother talked about what happened, and whatever frustrations Lily had against Abby for disinviting Becca is erased by this stupid incident. Abby isn’t mad at her daughter, though; she knew it was peer pressure. The two spend some more minutes talking in Lily’s bedroom, reminiscing and bonding over memories of Lily’s seventhbirthday party, when they had Princess Jasmine over.

Meanwhile, Abby and Jake completely disregard what happened between them just a few days prior, when they slept together (in the episode “Rule 33: When in Doubt, Run Away” air date: Jan. 6, 2015), and now she’s stressing over the fact that they did not use protection when they did it. A quick trip to her doctor, and she’s given the Morning After pill. Apparently, Abby decides not to drink yet. Later on, after all the hoopla of the party died down, she tells Jake the situation. She’s thinking that she might want to keep the baby if she’s indeed pregnant. We don’t get a resolution to this yet, which means that the storyline may still spill over in the next episodes.

Now about the girls…

Phoebe is nursing a broken heart in this episode. It was when her ex-husband, whom she still sees on the side, essentially cuts off all ties with her. As a parting gift, he gives her this gorgeous, expensive necklace. But then she realizes that the real reason for the change of heart is because Ralph has a new woman in his life, and she’s a successful and accomplished woman.

Delia is in a consensual relationship with a client. At work, she states for the fact that she’s not giving in to the advances of Mr. Beach. He was battling an expensive divorce with his ex-wife, a lifestyle guru. But the truth is, she’s sleeping with him.

Lyla (Janeane Garofalo) has gone MIA all throughout the episode. Later, she calls Phoebe on the phone to tell her that she’s in Portland with her kids, and she sounds like she’s loving her new life. This is Garofalo’s exit from the series, by the way, as the actress dropped out of the show already. This was reported on MNG in August.

And finally, after coming home from Lily’s party, Becca confronts Jake. She knows he spent the night at Abby’s that one time; she found his Uber records. Jake fesses up, basically admitting that he had sex with his ex-wife, and the young actress breaks up with him. Worse, Jake also lost a deal to direct a movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He was counting on that to help pay for Abby’s cracked foundation, but it looks like it’s not going to happen.
