‘Godzilla 2’ Movie Update: Mothra, Rodan, Ghidora Confirmed; Mechagodzilla Rumors Rife

After complaints that 2014’s “Godzilla” reboot did not have enough monsters, Legendary Studios has decided to give fans exactly what they want for “Godzilla 2” with confirmed appearances from fan favorite monsters – Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidora. Read on to find out more.

The other complaint about the new “Godzilla” movie was that it did not have nearly enough Godzilla, with more screen time devoted to the antagonistic ‘M.U.T.O.S.’ But all fan fears are being addressed in the sequel, confirmed Legendary’s Barnaby Lagg in an interview with Dread Central at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con.

“Oh, don’t worry. We know,” said Legg. “All I can say is stay tuned! You’re going to get exactly what you’re hoping for.”

But Legendary has gone vintage with the confirmed monsters so far. Mothra, Rodan and Ghidora are all monsters from the old Japanese films made by Toho Co. in the 1960’s. It is also worth noting that all of them were stars of their own films before starring in the “Godzilla” franchise. While Mothra and Radon resemble, respectively, a giant size moth and pterodactyl, King Ghidora is a three headed dragon with two tails. There are also rumors that “Godzilla 2” will star the robotic “Mechagodzilla.”

Other details about the movie have been sparse, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson rumored to reprise his role in the sequel. Gareth Edwards, the director for the franchise is currently shooting for “Star Wars.” In the mean time bouyed by the success of the American release, Toho Co. in Japan is set to release a domestic version of Godzilla in 2016.

“Godzilla 2” is slated for release on July 22, 2018.
