Whatever you do, don’t scream!” said the sinister Twitter teaser for the upcoming Goosebumps movie.
“Goosebumps”, the movie version of R.L. Stine’s iconic children’s book series is slated to show late this year.
The 3D combined with live action and computer animation horror comedy fantasy stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, Odeya Rush, Halston Sage, Amy Ryan, Ryan Lee, and Jillian Bell.
“Goosebumps” is based on the huge book franchise that was published via Scholastic from 1992 to 1997.
Since the release of the first novel, Welcome to Dead House, the books have garnered commercial success worldwide. The series has sold over 350 million books in 32 languages, and individual books in the series have been listed as bestsellers, including the New York Times Best Seller list for children.
A staple for Millenials way back, the series later made its debut in television. For today’s generation, all the TV episodes can now be streamed through Netflix.
Alternatively, the movie opted for a different approach instead of adapting any of the original novels and explains how the monsters were brought to life. The story follows a teenage boy named Zach Cooper (Minnette), who after moving into a small town befriends his new neighbor Hannah (Rush). Hannah’s father, R.L. Stine (Black) pens the Goosebumps stories and keeps the ghosts and creatures locked in his manuscripts but Zach and a friend unintentionally sets them free and that is where the mayhem starts. It is now up to Zach, Hannah, and Mr. Stine to join forces to stop the monsters from wreaking havoc and bring them back where they belong.
But wait, with just a month away from showing, The Tracking Board’s exclusive with Sony said Goosebumps 2 is already in the works. According to Sony, planning is still in the very early stages because they are in the process of handpicking a writer to start on the script ‘s sequel.
Production’s still mum on whether director Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens, and Gulliver’s Travels) will also be directing the follow-up movie, while Neal H. Moritz’s (21 Jump Street, I am Legend, and The Fast and the Furious) Original Film is confirmed to produce anew.
The announcement of a sequel can’t help but make moviegoers realize how confident the studio is about Goosebumps and become more intrigued on how promising it is. See you at the movies!
