Another day in “Gotham,” another crime to solve. This time, there’s a potent drug going around, taking over the city in Episode 5 “Viper.” Read on to learn more about this episode.
The city is overflowing with villains and mobs who are all threatening to take over the city and create havoc. The police was already having a hard time. Luckily, we have Detective Gordon who’s persistent on his own perspective that there’s still hope for the city that he lives in amidst the chaos that’s been happening around him.
A city like Gotham would not be complete without a mad scientist who’s responsible for the “Viper” — a deadly drug that threatens the lives of the people. Meanwhile, with Bruce’s recent discovery about Arkham, he was now obsessed, and Alfred was getting concerned. He was taking things very seriously, and that was something that you really can’t expect in a 13-year-old boy.
Maroni and Falcone’s feud was on, and since he has recently robbed one of Falcone’s casinos and now that Cobblepot is under his management, there was trouble brewing. With a person who is thirsty for power, working under one of the big mob bosses who’s acting against another big mob boss, this just made Cobblepot’s day, especially when he heard Maroni’s scheme.
We saw the effect of the Viper that has twin snakes on it with the words “Breathe Me” on the bottle. A civilian breathed it, and he became really strong and started to get violent. He wrecked the whole place, and this definitely got the attention of the police. Bullock and Gordon came to the scene, but before that, Gordon had an encounter with Selina Kyle, who was trying to pick someone’s pocket. However, Gordon saw her, and she ran away, and that’s it. That’s the last we saw of her in this episode.
Later on, they got to the person who breathed the Viper, and he was like the Hulk. However, he died when he dropped the ATM, and it crushed him. They investigated where the drug came from, and it turned out that it worked by feeding on the body’s calcium until you die. Making one needs amazing medical expertise and a complete and well-equipped lab. They found out that it’s from WellZyn, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises. With that revelation, they found out that the one doing the drug craze in Gotham is Stan Patolski.
Now that they know who’s behind it, Bullock and Gordon went to a charity event by Wayne Enterprises because they know that he’s going to be there. Bullock also investigated there by talking to Molly Mathis, who was up to something. When Bullock started to fire questions at her, she treated him like a child. Their whole conversation got interrupted when Patolski hijacked the event by outing Viper into the air ducts. But of course, Gordon was able to save the day again.
As for Molly Mathis, we saw her spying on Gordon and Bullock, and that confirmed our suspicions that she’s up to something. But what? It was also great to see Alfred no matter how uneasy he was becoming due to Bruce’s developing obsession on Arkham and his parents’ murder. We saw him fully supporting him all the way. Moreover, we saw a different angle of Batman that we haven’t had the chance of seeing from all of his movies. Here, we saw how strong the pact between Alfred and Bruce ,and Batman will not be the same without Alfred.
