“Graceland” Season 2 Episode 7 “Los Malos” aired on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on USA Network. This episode dealt with the aftermath of Episode 5 “H-A-Double-P-Y” (air date: July 16, 2014) and Episode 6 “The Unlucky Ones” (air date: July 23, 2014). FBI Agent Mike Warren (Aaron Tveit) put FBI Agent Paul Briggs (Daniel Sunjata) undercover in the LAPD Gang Task Force in order to investigate more on LAPD Gang Task Force head, Sid Markham (Carmine Giovinazzo), who was responsible for leaking the information on Mike’s raid on the CalCoast station to Carlito Solano (Erik Valdez). Read on to learn more about this episode.
Mike and FBI Agent Charlie de Marco (Vanessa Ferlito) investigated Markham’s money trail, while FBI Agent Johnny Tuturro (Manny Montana) tried to work on Lucia Solano (Jamie Gray Hyder) in the hopes of getting information about Carlito’s whereabouts and business. Meanwhile, DEA Agent Paige Arkin (Serinda Swan) was accompanied by ICE Officer Dale Jakes (Brandon Jay McLaren), as they stake out the house where all the smuggled Eastern European girls who are sold off to buyers are kept.
“Los Malos” took on a different format as the opening scenes showed what happened on the other side of the fence during the last two episodes in several flashbacks.
In the present day, Mike interrupted Markham’s breakfast to inform him that the FBI knows that he is working with Carlito.
The scene flashed back to seventy-two hours beforehand, which revealed that Markham’s second in command, Archie Garrett, had informed Markham of Mike’s raid, which prompted him to alert Carlito to postpone the pickup of the shipment and skip town.
The scene skipped to twenty-four hours ago, which revealed that Markham and Garrett were responsible for Lawrence’s murder, even after he reassured Markham that he didn’t reveal Markham’s identity to Mike.
Back at the present time, Paul got ready for his first day on the job, as he went undercover as a transferee from the El Paso Gang Task Force to the LAPD. Their volunteer got cold feet after he learned that he had to wear an old school wire. Paul had no choice but to volunteer himself as the buyer to help out with the bust of a ring led by the Santanas. He proved that he was the perfect candidate to go undercover, as this particular gang only transacted in Tagalog, which he knew how to speak.
The operation went south quickly, as the gang leader insisted on only dealing with their informant. Upon showing the wire that he had on, the gang leader fled, but Paul was able to knock him down and arrest him, proving to Markham that he can be trusted.
Mike and Charlie followed Markham’s money trail to two banks — the Bank of Los Angeles and the Getty National Bank. Among the two, the second one stood out as the bank was halfway across town.
Mike managed to put a counterfeit hundred dollar bill into the bank, after he used on to pay the pizza parlor across the street, who deposited money to the Getty National Bank. Mike printed out the details of Markham’s account,s while Charlie kept her bank teller busy by examining the counterfeit bill.
The pair found a ton of cash under Markham’s name in dozens of safety deposit boxes in that bank. Paul and Mike then asked Charlie to reach out to their friend who works undercover at an operation that does jobs for hire in order to rob the bank. The plan was to point the robbers in the direction of the bank and the money, and then Mike and the FBI team would arrest the bank robbers, thus allowing Markham’s money to end up as evidence in the FBI evidence room.
Meanwhile, Paige and Jakes staked out the place where the smuggled Eastern European girls were being kept — the very same place where they rescued Paige from. Paige revealed to Jakes that she was horrified at the treatment of the girls and the way that they were sold, which was why she could not abandon them.
A new buyer arrived, and the two were able to arrest him, but not after Paige let out her anger buy punching the buyer several times.
Paige also gained a lead on Carlito, as he had called Sulla and ordered him to lock down the place because they think that the FBI doesn’t know about that place yet. However, Mike wanted to be cautious once more. Against Paige’s wishes, Mike decided to keep the place open until Carlito opens it, making the rift between them wider.
Johnny Tuturro paid Lucia Solano a visit, only to find that she was being held hostage by two thugs who demanded to get the guns that Carlito had promised them.
Johnny gave them a huge brick of coke as a peace offering, but this only pleased the thugs and tied the two of them to chairs, while they waited for Lucia’s father’s man to arrive with the guns. When he did, a shootout occurred, prompting Johnny to offer protection to Lucia while still being undercover.
As he could not think of any other safe place to bring her, he took her to his mother’s house. Johnny and his mother have a complicated relationship, but this did not stop Johnny from asking her for some help, to which she reluctantly agreed to. Jakes stopped by to give Johnny some clothes from the house and warned him against mixing work and personal life, most especially as Johnny is deliberately putting his mother in danger by bringing Lucia there.
Despite the warning and the advice that he should send Lucia back to her father in Mexico, he kissed her.
