Gracepoint,” the American adaptation of the critically acclaimed British drama series, “Broadchurch,” from BBC, is going to debut on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. The show is already one of the most anticipated series of the season, given its pedigree. What’s more, its star from the original series, David Tennant, who is already a huge name in Great Britain, will also be in the FOX series. The network recently released a series of videos profiling many of the characters of “Gracepoint.” Read on for more details.

Of the set of character videos released by FOX, our main focus will be on the Miller family: Ellie (Anna Gunn), Joe (Josh Hamilton) and Tom (Jack Irvine).

Ellie is the police detective assigned to the murder case of an 11-year-old boy, together with Detective Emmett Carver (David Tennant). Tom, their son, is the best friend of the murder victim, while Joe, Ellie’s husband, is a stay-at-home parent. Their family dynamics is slightly unusual as Joe is left at home to take care of the kids, while it’s his wife who keeps busy hours at work. Their marriage, while happy, becomes strained and stressful as Ellie gets assigned to a high-profile case that has gripped their peaceful town.

In the original series, the family became the focal point of the final episodes (SPOILER ALERT: Read only if you want to know the plot twist), particularly when it’s the husband who was revealed as the killer. Time and again, however, the writers and producers of “Gracepoint” have indicated that the ending for the American version will differ from its British counterpart.

In the profile video, which you can watch below, Anna Gunn talks more about Ellie as a police officer, while Josh Hamilton discusses Joe as a very likeable family man. Jack Irvine, meanwhile, describes his character as someone who is very close to his father. Hamilton also describes how Ellie and Joe’s relationship is really like, but with the case so close to them as a family, it has changed everything.

“Even with the best of intentions things could go horribly wrong,” says Hamilton at the end of the profile video.

And there you have it for FOX’s videos of character profiles for “Gracepoint,” which begins its run on the network on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2104. Don’t forget to watch Ellie, Joe and Tom’s videos below. You can follow the rest of the character videos on the official site.
