Gracepoint” Season 1 Episode 5 will air on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. The media uncovered a crucial piece of information about Jack Reinhold that may be linked to Danny’s murder. Find out what happened in this episode below.

It was very early in the morning, and Beth Solano (Virginia Krull) met with Detective Ellie Miller (Anna Gunn) to talk. They were sitting by a swing outside. She actually needed a friend to unload this burden and sadness she was carrying with Danny’s death. Ellie discussed some things about the case to her, like the backpacker Lars Pierson. But she did not tell her about her husband Mark’s (Michael Pena) affair.  While they were talking, Beth noticed that Pastor Paul was outside too. What was he doing this time of the morning?

Carver and Ellie went to see Pastor Paul later in the episode, as he was the only one without an alibi on the night Danny died. When Ellie asked him what he was doing that night she and Beth saw him, he said that he sometimes would have bouts of insomnia, so he does wander around town.

Around this time too, a boat was burning in the water, and the police has been trying to recover it as instructed by Detective Emmett Carver (David Tennant). Later at the CSI laboratory, the experts said that there seemed to be traces of hair on it, which lead Carver to conclude that whoever was the killer was slowly getting rattled.

Carver: They're panicking, Miller. They’re starting to show themselves; that's exactly what we want. That's an amateur move, burning it like that.

In the morning, the police decided to hold a town’s meeting with the locals who were already getting worried that the investigation was starting to affect their business, especially with the beach being closed down. When they found out about the boat, Raymond (Adam Greydon Reid) approached Carver to tell him that he was right when he told the police about this before, but Carver still wasn’t a fan of the psychic and brushed him off.

Later, Beth called Carver and Ellie into their house to meet with the psychic. She wanted them to hear what he had to say. Raymond said that the killer was someone Danny already knew. But Carver insisted to Ellie that Beth had to know what they have uncovered about the psychic, and so Ellie revealed that Raymond had prior convictions. He was bankrupt, and he was a fraud. Carver roughed Raymond up and let him out of the Solano house.

Carver: I don’t know if you’re mentally ill, a liar, or someone who’s actually telling the truth. I don’t care. My job is to find this killer and prove the case. I deal with fact. All you’ve given her is a fantasy.

Raymond was directed never to be near Beth again, or he would be locked up.

Beth: Why would he do this Ellie, I have not paid him anything?
Ellie: I know. But two weeks from now, he’ll go to the press and he’ll give them an exclusive. Six months from now, he writes his memoir, “How I Worked to Solve the Gracepoint Child Murder Case.”

Later, Raymond was seen in his car getting hysterical. What’s that about?

The journalists Renee (Jessica Lucas) and Owen (Kevin Zegers) discovered something about Jack Reinhold (Nick Nolte) of the Wildlife group. They found out he was a convicted sex offender and told Carver and Ellie about this. Carver knew Renee from his previous case, and he was not also a big fan of media people. But the information they brought in was worth checking out.

So the police brought Jack in for questioning. Though he has lived in Gracepoint for many years, in his young age, he was convicted in Oregon as a pedophile. It was implied during Jack’s investigation that he was into photography. Did he take a lot of pictures of the boys from the Wildlife group? Jack was adamant in saying that taking photos was not irregular behavior. The police had nothing substantial to tie him up to the murder, so he was let go.

Later, Owen thought he’d go to Jack to talk to him about his side of the story before they print anything. But Jack was hostile towards Owen because he thought he was betrayed. Jack saw Owen grow up, and this was how he was being treated just so Owen could get a scoop? A lot of people witnessed Jack getting mad at Owen. Renee, meanwhile, wanted to seek an exclusive with Beth, and she agreed. She wanted people to know their story, as it may help with Danny’s case.

Gemma Fisher (Sarah-Jane Potts) approached the editor, Kathy Eaton (Alisen Down), of the local newspaper to tell her about Susan Wright (Jacki Weaver). She was asking for a job at Gemma’s hotel, but when she ran her social security number, a different name came up. Would Kathy help her look into this? Kathy tried to talk to Susan about this, but she was hostile and even threatened Kathy saying she knew people who can rape her.

Carver was finally having a relaxing social night. It was dinner at the Millers, and Joe (Josh Hamilton), Ellie’s husband, did splendidly with the food. The whole evening went without a hitch. We learned some more things about Carver here too — he was divorced with a 17-year-old daughter who no longer wanted to speak to him.

When Carver got back to his hotel room, he had this dizzy spells again and passed out. He woke up later with Gemma at the hospital. She wanted to know what was wrong with him, but he asked her to be quiet about this or his job would suffer.

When Renee’s article about the Solanos was published, Owen was slightly disappointed that he wasn’t included in the credits. The townsfolk were also upset by the story, including the police, who then decided that the Solanos would have to talk with the media so that no other exclusives would have to be published.  Before the Solanos stepped out to face the public and the press, Beth confronted Mark and told him she knew about his affair with Gemma.

Meanwhile, the CSI confirmed with the police that yes, it was Danny’s hair on the boat. Another breakthrough. And lastly, Jack went to the Solano’s house to talk to them about the stories in the press, which he still denied had anything to do with Danny’s death. He also brought a damning piece of evidence: Danny’s phone, which he claimed he found in one of the boats.

And that’s it for the recap of “Gracepoint” Season 1 Episode 5, which aired on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on FOX. Do you already have a suspect among Jack, Raymond, Pastor Paul or Susan? Sound off in the comments and check out the video below for the highlights to this episode.
