Season 11 will pick up with what Season 10 has left off. In a scoop from TV Line, series creator Shonda Rhimes discussed what the viewers can expect about the marital woes brewing between Derek and Meredith.
Rhimes explained that Derek was not committing a mistake for wanting what he wants, and the same goes for Meredith.

Aside from the marital woes that they were experiencing, Meredith will also deal with Cristina now gone and the revelation that she has a half-sister, Maggie. Rhimes noted that Meredith will look for a new shoulder to cry on, which she will find on Alex (Justin Chambers).
“They’ve always had a very close relationship that didn’t need a lot of work because they had a million other people there. Now it’s just the two of them; they become closer out of necessity,” added Rhimes.
Meanwhile, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Callie’s (Sara Ramirez) take on surrogacy will press some issues. Moreover, according to TV Line, sparks will fly between Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).
