“Grey’s Anatomy” remains as a critically-acclaimed ongoing medical drama series. Currently on its 12th season, it continues to deliver to the expectations of the viewers. However, there are rumors circulating that Derek Shepard’s character was killed last season because writer Shonda Rhimes hate Patrick Dempsey.
According to TV Line, she admitted last November in an interview to Larry Wilmore that she ended a character’s involvement in the series because she didn’t like the actor or actress portraying it. So was this the case for Dempsey since his role as Derek Shepard is pivotal in the 11 series of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
In a report from US Magazine, the actor speaks up about the issue. He responded neutrally to the question if he is the one whom Rhimes is talking about.
“I think she loves being provocative and that’s fine for who she is. That gets people talking about all the stuff that she’s doing. She’s an amazing woman who is incredibly productive. She’s promoting a book. She’s promoting three shows. And she’s emerging as the star of all of these things. I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she’s looking for. She’s very savvy,” Rhimes said.
Dempsey was also asked how his career was after his Derek Shepard was killed through an accident in the drama series.
“I’ve enjoyed it immensely, getting back to something that has a beginning, middle and end. It’s just a completely different approach. With Grey’s, you’re just grinding it out. In this instance, you take the time to get through things,” Dempsey explained.
Dempsey is in the sequel of “Bridget Jones’s Baby” that will be released September next year. Whether the rumor is about him or not, Patrick Dempsey will be remembered as the good and caring doctor in “Grey’s Anatomy.”
