“Ground Floor” Season 2 Episode 3 “Space Invaders” aired on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on TBS. Brody gets his first pay and realizes he has to downsize. He moves in with Jenny, who freaks out about the idea. Find out what happened in this episode in this recap below.
The episode opened with Brody (Skylar Astin) hanging out at Jenny’s (Briga Heelan) tiny apartment. It was not the Four Seasons and ideally a far cry from Brody’s own place, with rust flowing from the shower, an old and lumpy mattress and walls as thin as cardboard, the next door neighbor can actually hear them talk. But it’s Jenny’s place, and Brody has been staying over there a lot.
Brody, in fact, has been getting used to his new simple, laid-back life. At work the next day, he remarked to Threepeat (Rene Gube) that he’s liking the office clothes (jeans) and the work hours of his new job coz he still has time to enjoy the night. Threepeat sort of envied him, as he hasn’t had any luck socializing the past months because of work. He hasn’t had a decent date for a while at all.
Brody was actually at the top floor that morning to bring Mansfied (John C. McGinley) an old document he found in the shredder. It reminded him of the old times, when the two of them were still working together, and thought his former boss would be reminded of it too. But Mansfield saw through Brody’s attempt to get in his good side again. It did not work.
As soon as Brody left though, Mansfield asked Lindsay (Emily Heller) to put the shredded documents back together. He just didn’t want Brody to know it was important to him. He also attempted to foster a relationship with Lindsay, a lot like the way he and Brody used to be. But that didn’t work.
Returning to the ground floor, Brody was thrilled to receive his first paycheck but became disappointed when he saw just how much he’s actually earning every two weeks. Harvard (Rory Scovel) and Derrick (James Earl), however, put out a challenge to him: Can he survive with his meager paycheck for the week? Can he enjoy it without spending all of it? Because the two have been masters at stretching their dollars for a long time now. Brody was up for it and will prove the guys he can win with most savings by the end of the week.
At Jenny’s place, Brody started working on his budget and decided that the best thing would be to give up his place and stayed at his girlfriend's for a while. This totally surprised Jenny, and she started to freak out at the thought of them living together.
The next day, she started talking about her new living situation with Lindsay, which Mansfield overheard. He wanted so badly not to care about it, but he could not help it. He’s really concerned for Brody, even if he tells himself that he’s not. Meanwhile, Threepeat was also surprised by Brody’s new living situation, mostly because he thought it's not a romantic gesture. Threepeat told him that moving in is a big deal with women, and Brody realized his mistake.
Speaking of romantic, Threepeat asked the help of Jenny to hook him up with some of her lady friends. So that night at the bar, she did her part by helping Threepeat look good for the single ladies. Within minutes, he’s seen talking to a girl. Thanks, Jenny!
Brody found Jenny at the bar too and apologized to her for not telling her beforehand about moving in. So he proposed to her about living together. Jenny left the bar in the hurry without answering him.
The next day, as Brody was watering the plants in Mansfield’s room, the big guy decided to give his former employee relationship advice through Lindsay, who only came to his office to give him the shredded documents she pieced together. Mansfield talked to Lindsay metaphorically so that he doesn’t come off as actually giving Brody advice. But Brody picked up on it and thanked his former boss.
Mansfield: I wasn’t talking to you, but if you did glean some insight from what I said, then there’s nothing I can do about that.
Brody came home to, once again, apologize to Jenny. Jenny also apologized for walking out on him. The two agreed that the best thing in their relationship would be for Brody to move out, as they’re not yet ready to live together.
Meanwhile, Brody ended up winning the challenge against Harvard. The latter did have some clever ways of stretching his paycheck, such as getting drinks from the bar for free (he barters with long hugs!), but Brody still saved $2 dollars against Harvard’s $1. As penalty, Harvard streaked naked at the top floor, which Mansfield didn’t like.
