‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Movie Update: Marvel Producers Think Family-Centric Plot is ‘Risky’

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is the unlikely superhero movie, compared to the contemporary theme of rebooting or continuing well-known fictional characters, which was met with unprecedented success last 2014. It garnered a staggering $500 million dollars in ticket sales worldwide which means that a sequel to the very action-packed, dramatic, and comedic movie is in order.

Given that the first installment of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie opened a number of unanswered questions, like how was Rocket made or what exactly is Peter Quill, what will the second installment be about?

Well, Director James Gunn posted a very vague yet tantalizing message on Twitter. He said that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” might very well answer some questions raised in the prequel, more specifically the back story of the very smart yet mischievous Rocket, which is being voiced by actor Bradley Cooper. In addition, Gunn also said that if he would have his way with the upcoming film, he would be introducing new characters that joined Star Lord’s interstellar crew, as reported by Vine Report. Aside from showing Rocket Racoon’s background story, Gunn also plans on introducing the father of Star-Lord, which is played by Chris Pratt, in the upcoming film. This introduction of Quill’s father is not cannon but was intended by the director because he finds that this part of Quill’s story is just unappealing, as reported by MNRDaily.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel doesn’t just tackle the questions posted by the first film, it will also introduce new characters. Though Gunn himself didn’t confirm who these new members are, many speculate that one of them might be Moondragon, Drax’s daughter. The speculation is rooted from the first film’s insinuation that Drax’s daughter is dead because Drax believed that she was murdered by Ronan the Accuser, as reported by Christian Today.
