Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 has cast Bradley Cooper for voices Rocket the Raccoon. But the character is physically performed by Sean Gunn on set. In a recent live chat on his Facebook page, the director revealed why Sean plays the role.

Sean is the brother of director James Gunn. He has also played this character in its entire physical form in the first installment of the superhero film. The character of Rocket is known for its sarcastic nature and funny dialogues.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 will see Sean taking over the role once again. Some fans believe that Sean is a stand-in actor. But director James has now explained why Sean plays that role. He also reveals that his brother is a motion reference actor. Read to know more.

Director Explains Sean’s Role In Sequel

Director Gunn, in a recent Facebook live chat interview was questioned by a fan about his brother Sean acting in the sequel. He was asked if The Hangover actor, Cooper, could ever be the stand-in for Rocket Raccoon while shooting. To which he says that “Sean Gunn is not a stand-in. He is a motion reference actor,” reports

Performing Rocket In Real Is Not Easy

The response of director Gunn drops a hint that performing character Rocket the Raccoon is not an easy task. The report further adds that Gunn continues filming Rocket’s performance until he gets that right. “Sean is able to physically do something most actors aren’t able to do,” explains director of the sequel.

Appreciating his brother’s acting quality, he adds that Sean can do a lot of strange physical things. He can waddle around on his legs for the full day. That, too, he does it exactly at the same height of Rocket the Raccoon. This is something extremely difficult for any other actor. But as per James, Sean does this very well.

This might be the reason why Cooper is not seen playing Rocket physically.

Earlier director Gunn has revealed that he identifies himself with character Rocket. They both he said they both have anger issues. In the trailer of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Rocket and his best buddy Baby Groot are seen having a fun time.

New Banners Released For Sequel’s Cast

As the release date draws closer, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 director Gunn has released new banners for the film. Gamora, Star-Lord, and Drax have their solo banners, while Rocket and Baby Groot shares the same banner.

Rocket is seen holding his weapon and aiming at the enemy. While Baby Groot appears taking the support of Rocket’s shoulder to express his anger toward the enemy.

CBR reports that Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), and Drax (Dave Bautista) have received their own separate promotional banners. But the one which shows Peter Quill comes from a recently released billboard advertising the movie.

In the released posters, Drax and Star-Lord are in full swing of action. But Saldana’s Gamora is seen relaxing by lying on the floor. She holds a weapon in one of her hands. As per the aforementioned source, in other released images/banners of the characters, Nebula and Yondu are also seen.

Recently, it has been revealed that Benicio Del Toro’s The Collector will not appear in the sequel. Gunn has explained that this character did not fit in the storyline for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Hence he will not appear on the screen.

Perhaps, that is the reason why fans have not seen him in any trailer, TV Spots or banners so far released for the sequel. Ayesha aka Kismet will be seen in the film. The role is played by Elizabeth Debicki.
