Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” left us all with a question that we’re just itching to find out. The ending of the story raised a question that stemmed from two events: first, how come Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, survived the grueling ordeal of holding an Infinity Stone with just his bare hands; second, the talk that Yondu had with his crew regarding the delivery of Star-lord to his father. Read on for more details.
From the movie “Guardians Of The Galaxy,” we knew that Quill was born to a human mother, but throughout the movie, the only thing that he was able to know was that his father comes from a very ancient source, beyond this, he was completely in the dark.
Though others reading this article might have read the comics already and know who the father is, think again. Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has somewhat the power to deter from the comic universe, writer-director James Gunn can change Star-lord’s lineage, thus making Gunn the only person who truly knows who Quill’s proud daddy really is.
“There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay… It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I’ll say that much” said Gunn in an interview with Empire.
This revelation brings up a lot of possibilities as to who Quill’s father might be. Some speculations on the internet say that it is Thanos while others are banking on Adam Warlock. A Marvel-head which was seen in the Collector’s office, the cocoon version of him that is. These are all opinions though, so what we can rely on is something that was said directly by Gunn.
“…the character has his own separate journey. He also says that Quill’s father might not even appear in the second film if he doesn’t serve the core story that’s still in development…” reported by CinemaBlend.
What are your opinions on Peter Quill’s parentage? Do you think that showing it on the movie’s sequel is important? Tell us what you think, we would love to hear from you.
