“Guardians of the Galaxy” is the tenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” It features an ensemble cast which includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Benicio del Toro. The film is directed by James Gunn from the screenplay of Nicole Perlman. It is produced by Kevin Feige.
In the “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Peter “Star Lord” Quill is played by Chris Pratt. He finds himself hunted by Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), the film’s main antagonist, after stealing a coveted orb. Quill must now form an alliance with an unlikely group of extraterrestrial misfits, forming the rag-tag superhero team dubbed as the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Along with Quill are the enigmatic assassin, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who works for Thanos; Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), a warrior in search of vengeance against Ronan; the wise-cracking Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), a genetically engineered, fast-talking raccoon who is also a bounty hunter, a mercenary and a master of weapons and battle tactics; and the innocent but deadly Groot (Vin Diesel), a treelike humanoid whose speech pattern consists only of “I am Groot” and serves as an accomplice and plant to Rocket.
Filming began on July 6, 2013 in London. In an interview at the 2010 San Diego Comin-Con International, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked about the title of the movie.
“There are some obscure titles, too, like Guardians of the Galaxy. I think they’ve been revamped recently in a fun way in the book,” said Feige in the Screenrant report.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on July 31, 2014 and in the United States on August 1, 2014. It will also be featured in 3D and IMAX 3D.
