Has the mysterious role of Sylvester Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finally been revealed? New details that surfaced online claims that the legendary actor will play the role of a Ravager and he will play an important role to Yondu’s (Michael Rooker) story.

New Faces

The sequel to the 2015 movie will introduce a handful of new characters. Thanks to the trailer, fans already know that Kurt Russel will play the role of Ego, Peter Quill’s (Chris Pratt) father. Pom Klementieff joined the team as the wide-eyed Mantis. Elizabeth Debicki is the golden goddess Ayesha who is of a genetically perfect alien race.

However, the role of Stallone still remains a mystery. Until now.

The information comes from Twitter’s @StitchKingdom who has revealed that the character was directly referenced in the movie’s production note. They posted details about the new character below.

“Stakar had banished Yondu many years earlier for doing something wrong and he finally sees him almost twenty years later at this particular establishment called the Iron Lotus where all of the Ravagers go to blow off steam.” The post revealed. “And then we have a confrontation which is pretty intense and it’s kind of a father/son type of thing and now he’s going to have to pay the piper.”

The name Stakar is drawn from Starhawk, a popular character from the comic book universe. A  known antihero, he helped the Guardians and often team-up with Aleta Ogord, his adoptive brother-turned-lover. Starhawk is also a former member of the Reavers of Arcturus, a group of warriors that killed mutants of their race.

This does not come as a surprise because fans have long suspected that Stallone will play the role of Starhawk. As noted, the junior novel tie-in of the sequel directly mentions the Ogord family. Moreover, the upcoming movie’s working title was Guardians 3000 (which in the comic includes Starhawk).

A Greater Focus on Ravagers

Stitch Kingdom also posted about Stallone and co-star Sean Gunn discussing about the Iron Lotus which is located on the planet of Contraxis, a neon jungle covered in ice and snow. Stallone said the Iron Lotus was one of his favorite sets because it serves as a great backdrop for Stakar and the Ravagers.

The posts are proof that the movie will explore the story of Yondu, the space pirate who abducted Peter Quill from Earth when he was just a child. The last time fans saw him, he and his team agreed to work with the Guardians of the Galaxy in exchange of an Infinity Stone. In the end, he found out that the man he raised tricked him by exchanging the orb with a toy.

Yondu’s relationship with Peter in the upcoming movie remains to be seen. However, it looks like he will learn to put his differences with Star-Lord aside and join his band of space misfits.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Details

In other news, James Gunn has confirmed that he will write and direct the third installment to the story of the Guardians of the Galaxy. In a lengthy Facebook post, the renowned filmmaker talked about the future of Star-Lord and the Guardians following their battle against Thanos.

Gunn explained that the past ten years of the MCU has been building up to Avengers: Infinity War. That said, whatever happens in the movie will be the first step toward where the cinematic universe will bring its old and new heroes. The filmmaker also said that it will signal the end of the story of the current iteration of the Guardians.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters on May 5.
