Once again, Peter Quill a.k.a Star-Lord and his band of misfits have saved the galaxy, this time around, from a celestial threat (and his biological father) known as Ego (Kurt Russell). But where will writer and director James Gunn bring the space superheroes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Find out below.
Who Is Adam Warlock?
Ego is dead and done for, but the living planet is not the sole villain of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Throughout the sequel, Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and her army of genetically-engineered super beings pursued Star-Lord and his team across the galaxy after Rocket (Brandy Cooper) stole the batteries they were hired to protect. Twice, the team of misfits was able to elude them.
So, in order to carry out punishment to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ayesha created the next step in their evolution. In the end credits, the movie showed a new cocoon which, according to the towering gold-clad goddess, which contains a superior being she named Adam.
Adam, of course, refers to Adam Warlock, a once-member of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy and Infinity Watch. Ayesha and Adam will probably become the big villains of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. A lot of comic book fans have been asking for the being called Him to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because the Infinity Stones will play a massive role in Avengers 3 and 4, Him’s introduction is needed now more than ever.
But Screen Rant pointed out that a rumor from way back Avengers: Age of Ultron claims that he will be a villain of Avengers 3.
A casting process for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War revealed that Adam’s bad side called the Magus will separate itself and retrieve the Infinity Gauntlet. He, then, created doppelgangers of the Avengers to create a universe of pure chaos.
In the comic book universe, Adam Warlock and Thanos (Josh Brolin), the main villain of Avengers: 3 and 4, have a long history together. Warlock is the being who led the war against the Mad Titan and then get his hand on the Infinity Gauntlet and all six Infinity Stones. Together with Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) and Pip the Troll, he founded the Infinity Watch, a group of cosmic beings whose mission is to protect the artifacts from anyone assembling them into the Infinity Gauntlet.
Will Adam Warlock Be In Avengers: Infinity War or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Marvel President Kevin Feige already stated that Adam Warlock will not show up in Avengers: Infinity War. In a previous interview, he stated that Gunn has written different versions of Him in Guardians of the Galaxy. So, if he will appear in the MCU, it is only right that he will be fully introduced in a future Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
Whether he will be a villain or not remains to be seen, but Gunn also recently confirmed that Debicki will return in Vol. 3. While she was a secondary villain, creating and becoming allies with Adam Warlock will definitely make them a huge threat to the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Moreover, with the third installment set to be released after the still-untitled Avengers 4, maybe Gunn’s version of Adam Warlock will eventually realize his heroic nature and fulfill his destiny to protect the universe from annihilation by keeping the Infinity Stones away from beings with evil intent.
According to Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters in 2020. It is expected to conclude the story of the original Guardians and set up the direction the MCU will head to for the next ten years.
