In the latest episode of “Halt and Catch Fire” Season 1 Episode 4 “Close to the Metal” (air date: June 22, 2014), Cameron’s programming code is doomed. Read on for MNG’s “Halt and Catch Fire” Season 1 Recap of Episode 4 “Close to the Metal.”

Things at Cardiff were getting stressful after Joe informed the team that the Cardiff PC prototype has a system response time of 396 milliseconds, which is such a low number.

As for Joe, he gets more confidence and gets Ron, a reporter from Wall Street Quarterly, to check out Cardiff Electric and do a research about the company’s PC venture. However, Joe was unimpressed and told Joe that he’s only at Cardiff as a favor for a friend and this friend of his is also unconvinced that Cardiff’s PC will be able to compete in the market. Joe, who is persistent, told Ron to please check out the office and meet the employees because he’s going to work on a different angle.

Ron obliged and Joe brought him to Cameron’s to meet her. Joe requested Cameron’s workspace to be cleaned but when they got there, they saw Cameron getting all panicky. Turns out, her computer is unresponsive and her BIOs code can’t be retrieved because her computer got fried by a vacuum cleaner that was used to clean up her workspace. Oh no! In a moment of frenzy, she broke down and she realized how much work has been lost. Gordon tried to help her to find backup disks with the BIOs code but nothing worked – everything got wiped out! Joe was calm and he was trying to keep everyone calm while Ron has found his angle, and it’s not going to shed a positive light on Cardiff.

In other news, Bosworth is still searching for investors and met up with Nathan, an old money investor. Nathan knew what Joe did to Lulu last episode, which you can read HERE.

Back at Cardiff, Gordon knows who can retrieve the BIOs code – his wife. However, things between him and his wife are starting to get rocky but he needed her help. Fortunately, Donna came to Cardiff and tried to clean up the whole BIOs code mess while Cameron had a panic attack from all the stress. The good news is that Donna was able to retrieve the BIOs code. While Donna was busy with the whole retrieval process, Cameron watched Gordon and Donna’s daughters and one daughter told her what Donna and Gordon call her. This infuriated Cameron so she decided to leave Cardiff and get some revenge.

She got to Gordon and Donna’s house with a plan to vandalize the place but she was surprised to find that she wasn’t the only person there – a former Cardiff employee whom Gordon had fired last episode was there with a shotgun in hand and ready to make the couple pay.

After retrieving the BIOs code, Donna went to the supply area and there she noticed the vacuum again. She figured things out and realized that Cameron’s work area has no carpet and she also found some floppy disks hidden as well, which are all Cameron’s backups for the BIOs code. Donna told Joe about this and Joe admitted that everything was his plan. It was a plan for Ron to get some juicy story out of Cardiff and he told Donna not to tell anyone, even her husband.

However, Bosworth wanted to show Joe who’s running things at Cardiff so when Joe was driving home, he got pulled over by the cops for over speeding. But, he got beat up by them and he was brought to the police station where Bosworth was. Bosworth then told Joe how he’s friends with the cops. This was his way to show Joe who is running things at Cardiff.

Meanwhile, Donna did not keep her word and told her husband about the whole BIOs code that Joe orchestrated that day. She worries on how far Joe will go but she was also surprised to hear her husband’s reaction who thinks that the whole thing was a good idea after all.
