Halt and Catch Fire” Season 2, Episode 2 “New Coke” has revealed Donna and how she managed stuff pretty well, particularly the bumps in the road that she has to deal with. That being said, Gordon, Cameron and Joe went through a few lumps this episode yet Donna proved that she was the most capable of adaptability and rising above it gracefully.

Gordon has been using cocaine for months now. It’s not doing him any good yet he still uses because he doesn’t know what to do with himself anymore. Now that he’s gotten the success and money that he’s been wanting for quite a long time, he still feels lost.

Meanwhile, Joe was offered a job by his future father-in-law, which he took right away. At first, he thought it’s going to be something big. He was surprised that he assigned him for a data entry job.

Cameron and Donna met up with possible investor, Mr. Bondham. However, they were in for a surprise. It was because just like the guy who didn’t take them seriously the previous episode, Mr. Bondham is also the same, only difference is he’s rich and wears better clothes. He pointed out Cameron and Donna’s sexuality as females who should just bear children and not meddle with business. Donna shrugged off the disastrous meeting. Cameron didn’t take it well and lashed out on the next person who threatened them, Tom Rendon.

Tom Rendon actually wants to be hired by their company. What he did is he hacked into the Mutiny’s network and upgrades all of their games, just to get the attention of Cameron. Cameron saw his potential and hired him, without consulting Donna again.

Back in Joe’s new job, his future father-in-law was only testing him to see his worth. Sara offered to talk to his father so as not to humiliate Joe considering the job that he’s given him. However, Joe stopped him and continued working on the data entry job because he’s determined to win Sara on his own.

Gordon tried to be a good husband and a good father but predictably, he failed at it again. This is when we can really see how Donna plays such an important role in the show. It was especially this season that she’s starting to come out as the heroine who holds things together. As for Tom and Cameron, it looks like these two will hit it off soon.
