The “Hannibal” Season 2 finale shocked us all! It was indeed a bloody fight. Let us summarize first what happened in the said finale of “Hannibal” Episode 13 “Mizumono,” before we get in the “Hannibal” Season 2 postmortem and Season 3 spoilers.
Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) discovered that Will (Hugh Dancy) had him fooled by catching a whiff of Lounds’ (Lara Jean Chorostecki) scent on Will. Purnell (Cynthia Nixon) released a warrant for Jack (Laurence Fishburne) and Will. During the course of the “Hannibal” Season 2 Episode 13 “Mizumono,” Jack was seen bleeding profusely in the basement and Alana (Caroline Dhavernas) was thrown out the window.
Will was stabbed in the stomach, Abigail Hobbs (Kacey Rohl) was alive and was sliced in the throat for the second time by Hannibal. Towards the end of the said episode, Hannibal was seen in the plane with Bedelia (Gillian Anderson). “Mizumono,” was just an insane episode, with everybody bleeding! The viewers are left wondering who will make it out live, or who will not, in “Hannibal” Season 3.
“Hannibal” executive producer Bryan Fuller will help us understand why all these things happened and what we could expect in “Hannibal” Season 3. In an interview with TV Line, Fuller openly discussed the twists and turns in “Hannibal.”
Fuller started the conversation by stating that the “Hannibal” Season 2 finale was a “fated conclusion.” However, the producer welcomed the “ifs,” including the possibilities of Hannibal getting caught. He mentioned that if Purnell supported Jack and Will’s plan and if Hannibal did not catch the whiff of Lounds on Will, yes, they could have caught the mad man.
Hannibal’s wrath regarding Will’s disloyalty was, as the producer put it, brutal because he was seduced by humanity through Will, and he allowed himself to be seduced.
As for Will giving his therapist a warning that “They know,” Fuller also claimed that there were two reasons behind this and how they want the viewers to have an open interpretation of Will’s action. First, Will wanted to warn Hannibal so he could escape. He was his partner in crime. Second, Will is worried for Jack’s safety.
The producer also explained why they had to roll first the credits before they show Hannibal with Bedelia on the plane. According to Fuller, they wanted to emphasise that the episode ended with Hannibal being cleansed with the rain. And, hold on to your seats! Fuller clarified that the scene on the plane was in fact the beginning of “Hannibal” Season 3! He added that Bedelia was where she has chosen to be, and that choice will be seen in “Hannibal” Season 3 Episode 1.
Meanwhile, in Fuller’s interview with TV Guide, he mentioned about shifting from Hannibal’s origin story to “Hannibal Rising” in Season 3. He also confirmed that there will be new characters in the next season in the likes of Lady Murasaki and Francis Dolarhyde.
