According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), “Hannibal” Season 3 will mark the end of the Bryan Fuller drama on TV. It was after Fox announced the heartbreaking news that the show will no longer be renewed for another season. The psychological thriller recently premiered its third season, but the show is already up on the chopping block after its season finale in August.
“We have been tremendously proud of ‘Hannibal’ over its three seasons. Bryan and his team of writers and producers, as well as our incredible actors, have brought a visual palette of storytelling that has been second to none in all of television – broadcast or cable,” said NBC in a statement, wrote THR.
The Mads Mikkelsen-led drama is rumored to have been involved in a rights issue, which may have been the cause of the show’s cancellation on the network. According to the outlet, Fuller wanted to introduce Clarice Starling in the series in Season 4, but the rights to the said character were not available.
The show’s executive producer, Martha DeLaurentiis is now looking into possible options to continue the story of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in another network. Meanwhile, Variety reported that the producers sparked a campaign to save the show from complete disposal via the Twitter hashtag: “#SaveHannibal.”
“Hannibal” is now one of the top worldwide trends on Twitter, with several fans calling on Netflix to pick up the series for renewal after it ends on NBC in August.
“Hey @netflix, Do The Thing! #SaveHannibal,” a user named Charlie Shneider (@AwesomEmergency) wrote.
A petition to renew the series on Netflix has also been started by a fan named Carlos Mazal via Change.Org. The petition calls on renewing “Hannibal” on its home network, NBC.
