“Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” movie scored over $220 million worldwide when it hit the theaters two years ago, March 2013. This made Paramount to announce plans that they will surely make a sequel. Read on for more details.
In 2013, the studio first announced their plans to make another “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” movie shortly after its release. It was since it got what moviegoers expects from a fantasy-action movie. But it seems like they just got piled up by other projects as the anticipated sequel has gone missing and was not developed.
Writer Tommy Wirkola already confirmed that he gave the studio the finished movie script back in November, saying that “It’s up to them now.” Two years have passed and the film didn’t seem to be moving forward, until the news about the film’s new selected director immersed and gone viral in the internet. It turns out that Paramount is preparing for the movie sequel for quite some time now.
In an exclusive news from Deadline, the studio tapped Bruno Aveillan to helm the film. The award-winning commercial director is set to make his feature directional debut on “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2” for Paramount.
Aveillan is well-known in the commercial industry as he uses unique cinematic style and groundbreaking effects in his CF’s. His works were used in short films for branded content including Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Swarovski, Crystals, Audi, and Samsung. Ssome of his projects have a mythical, period vibe which is fit to Wirkola’s established and well-acclaimed original film.
The commercial director will continue the adventure of the witch-hunting siblings. It may not be easy as it looks like. Compared to the original family oriented children’s fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel’s story was more on action and killing which made the audience more thrilled. The $50 million budget film grossed $226.3 million worldwide. It had really good movie reviews and it even get a strong business overseas, so making a sequel out of a box office hit movie is more complicated than what it seems.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the “Hansel& Gretel: Witch Hunters” sequel will be produced by Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick through Gary Sanchez Productions, with Beau Flynn and his FlynnPicture Co.
On the other hand, there’s still no news whether the original cast, including Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton will be reprising their roles as Hansel and Gretel. However, the fans are still hoping and looking forward to seeing them again as the badass witch-hunters.
Plot and other details about “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” have not been released.
