It looks like DC’s Gotham City Sirens starring the breakout star of Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), will be heading to theaters sooner than expected. New information online reveals that the female-centric supervillain movie will be released next year.

Rise of the Female Leads

After the critical and box office success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman, more female comic book characters are heading to the big screen, one of which is Gotham City Sirens. The project will see the reunion of Margot and Suicide Squad director David Ayer but, aside from that, not much is known about the movie.

However, it looks like Warner Bros. is fast-tracking the development of the upcoming movie. We Got You Covered reported that an Amazon listing revealed that Gotham City Sirens might be released as early as next year.

“While I was browsing Amazon for 2018 calendars, I came across quite the whopper in what is being listed as ‘Harley Quinn (Movie) Gotham City Sirens 2018 Wall Calendar,'” the site reported. While the calendar still features photos of Robbie from Suicide Squad, the item was accompanied with a short product description that proves that it is a tie-in with the upcoming movie.

“Suicide Squad favorite Harley Quinn joins DC Comics’ super villains Catwoman and Poison Ivy in a movie of their own, Gotham City Sirens,” it read. “Find out more in the movie and in the 2018 Gotham City Sirens Calendar that includes the last four months of 2017. It features spacious grids with room to write in all of your super-villainous exploits printed on paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.”

This is not the first rumor that claims that the movie will be released in 2018. Earlier this year, a leak in 4chan revealed that Warner Bros. top priority for 2018 is Gotham City Sirens. This is despite the fact that Catwoman and Poison Ivy have not been cast yet (although a number of actors have already expressed interest in the roles).

The Harley Quinn/Gotham City Sirens calendar is now taking pre-orders and will go on sale on Sept. 1. That said, more information about the movie will probably be released in the next few weeks. Warner Bros. is probably keeping major announcements a secret to be revealed in time for San Diego Comic-Con 2017 on July 20 – 23.

More Gotham City Sirens News

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Ayer teased that the villain of Gotham City Sirens will be Black Mask. The director posted a photo of the comic book baddie on Twitter.

Black Mask is a popular DC baddie who often appeared in Batman comics, but he has also fought both Catwoman and Poison Ivy. A crime boss with an affinity for masks, Black Masks will be a formidable opponent for the antihero trio.

Also rumored to appear in Gotham City Sirens is Jared Leto’s The Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime had a sizeable role in the original comic book series, but Leto could not confirm nor deny his involvement in the movie adaptation so far.

“I have no idea,” he told ET. “There are a lot of moving parts with that stuff and we’ll see what happens next.”

Gotham City Sirens was created by Paul Dini and Guillem March. It was first published in June 2009 and ran until August 2011. The comic book series followed Catwoman who, after a fight with a supervillain that almost claimed her life, decided to team up with Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn to survive in Gotham City.

In the meantime, the next movie that will come out from the DC Extended Universe is Justice League. After Clark Kent’s (Henry Cavill) sacrifice in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) creates a superhero team that consists of Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher). The movie will be released on Nov. 17.
