Out of all the characters in CBS’ iteration of the legendary and iconic “Hawaii Five-0”, one of the characters that doesn’t seem to fare well when it comes to romance is Detective Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim). However, according to a recent casting update, it seems like the staunch and loyal detective will finally have a shot at finding romance. WARNING: This article contains spoilers regarding the upcoming sixth season of “Hawaii Five-o”, specifically with regards to Detective Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) and his family. Read on to learn more about what will happen next to Chin Ho and his family, and to learn who he will be meeting in the sixth season.
When it comes to the romance department, Detective Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) usually doesn’t have much luck. After all, his one true love, Malia Waincroft (Reiko Ayelsworth), to whom he had been married to, lost her life at the end of the second season when she was shot to death by the accomplice of corrupt cop Frank Delano (William Baldwin). It was after he broke out of prison, in revenge, gave him a choice as to which he would save- his cousin, Officer Kono Kalakaua (Grace Park), or Malia. Chin Ho then rushed to save a drowning Kono, which resulted in Malia’s death, since Delano ordered her death even though Chin Ho cooperated with his demands.
Later on, Chin Ho, after chasing Delano down, got revenge by shooting him in cold blood.
However, since then, he has only been seen dating once in the fourth season, but since then, nothing much has been shown about Chin Ho’s love life.
Thankfully, Chin Ho’s love life, according to Entertainment Weekly, in the upcoming sixth season, will be a little bit more optimistic as actress Julie Benz, who is known for her roles in “Defiance” and “Dexter”, will be heading the good detectives way in a three-episode arc.
According to the report, Benz will be portraying a recurring character named Jennifer. Her character is a San Francisco Police Detective who will be working with the Five-0 Task Force as she had been instructed to create a “Five-0” of their own in San Francisco.
While there, she and Chin Ho will get pretty close, which, of course, makes fans of Chin Ho and of the show, hope and wonder for the unlucky in love detective.
This will be good for the detective as the season’s premiere will start out strong with a very worrying situation for the detective.
In the tradition of keeping things in the family, Chin Ho and the rest of the Five-0 Task Force will be racing against time after Chin Ho’s brother-in-law, Gabriel Waincroft (Christopher Sean) kidnaps Kono and Adam Noshimuri (Ian Anthony Dale) on their wedding night, after threatening Chin Ho at the parking lot during the ceremony.
According to Entertainment Weekly, who talked to executive producer Peter Lenkov regarding the situation, Lenkov told them that Gabriel’s motives in kidnapping the pair has more to do with regaining the money, wealth and power that he had previously lost. It isn’t due to personal reasons, although one would think that it is, as Kono is Chin Ho’s cousin. This goes to show that Gabriel will be quite different from Wo Fat (Mark Dacoscos), whose vendetta against Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) was entirely personal.
