“Sensitive Skin” is a comedy series starring Kim Cattrall, most famously known for playing Samantha Jones on “Sex and the City,” which aired from 1998 to 2004 on HBO. She returns to the network, via HBO Canada, with this British adaptation. It has taken Cattrall almost six years to make this new comedy series happen, but finally, “Sensitive Skin” will premiere on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on HBO Canada. Adapted from a British comedy that aired in 2005, “Sensitive Skin” is a story of a wife and mother named Davina (Cattrall) who is going through a midlife crisis and who starts to question what she has made of her life. Supporting Cattrall on this show is Don McKellar (“Slings & Arrows”) who will play Al, her husband of several years.
Deciding to change their life, the couple gives up their comfortable house and finds new residence in a downtown neighborhood, where the vibe is modern, fast but relevant. The story will follow the adventures and misadventures of the couple, as they try to begin life anew.
Cattrall and McKellar both serve as executive producers for “Sensitive Skin,” with McKellar directing all of its six short episodes and Bob Martin as the writer. The series is set in New York, but the show has actually been filmed in Toronto.
Joanna Lumley (“Absolutely Fabulous”) top billed the series in the British version that aired on BBC Two for two seasons.
According to Deadline, Cattrall, who had her start in the 1980s movie “Mannequin,” had wanted to do this single-camera comedy for some time with HBO in America, with a different set of writer and producer. However, the deal was closed with HBO Canada.
Meanwhile, HBO Canada said in its press release that following the airing of the first episode of “Sensitive Skin” on July 20, 2014, premium subscribers of the channel would be able to binge-watch the rest of the series.
And that’s the news on Kim Cattrall’s “Sensitive Skin,” a six-part comedy series that will air on July 20, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. via HBO Canada.
