“Heaven Is for Real” Movie Synopsis:
2014 is indeed the blockbuster year for biblical and faith-based films. According to Deadline, several of these films have been surprisingly well-received by moviegoers, as well as, critics. The films include 20th Century Fox’s “Son of God,” Pure Flix Entertainment’s “God’s Not Dead” and the star-studded film “Noah” starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Anthony Hopkins and Douglas Booth.
“Heaven Is for Real” is based on the best-selling Christian novel of the same name written by Pastor Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent.
The story centres on the real-life accounts of a 4-year old named Colton Burpo (played by newcomer Connor Corum) who believes that he has seen heaven after a near-death experience. He shares his bizarre experience to his father Todd Burpo (Greg Kinnear) who is also a pastor at a town in Nebraska. His family didn’t know what to believe until Colton spoke about several hidden details in the family.
Even before its initial release, Rotten Tomatoes reported that 95% users, which is equal to a whopping 11,886 people, are excited to see “Heaven Is for Real.”
In an interview with FOX 8 News, newcomer Connor Corum shared that he has no acting experience whatsoever when he got the starring role in the film. According to his mother, they just auditioned “on a whim” and that the young Connor fit the description of a blond, blue-eyed boy. They also shared that Connor had sang a few lyrics of the song “Amazing Grace” that he memorised for the audition.
On the other hand, Kinnear praised his onscreen kid for having a “natural talent for acting” during his stop at NBC’s Today on April 7, 2014, as posted on Broadway World.
Meanwhile, the real-life Todd Burpo talked about “Heaven Is for Real” with The Global Dispatch/Dispatch Radio. He shared that the people can relate to the film.
“It’s a real family. They handle our struggles accurately and honestly. I think they are honest about faith too…we had a lot of questions and they don’t try to hide that…” said Pastor Burpo in The Global Dispatch interview.
