L'Oreal has chosen Helen Mirren to represent the brand along with celebrities like Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Lara Stone, Blake Lively, Karlie Kloss, Jane Fonda and Naomi Watts. Mirren, 69, is notably one of the oldest endorsers of the brand, along with Fonda, 76. Their inclusion in the roster is a welcome change from a youth-obsessed beauty culture.
“I am not gorgeous and I never was, but I was always OK looking and I’m keen to stay that way,” the actress told The Daily Mail. “I have always loved the L’Oréal Paris brand, and I hope I can inspire other women towards greater confidence by making the most of their natural good looks.” She has confessed to having a low maintenance beauty routine: she cuts her own hair, visits a salon once a year and does little exercise. She also said that she has a reasonably healthy diet.
This marks the actress' first beauty deal. She will be endorsing L'Oreal's “Age Perfect” line. She looks her age in the campaign photos, which have not been retouched to make her look younger. Mirren has also modelled for Marks & Spencer.
There is an emerging trend of hiring older actresses as spokespersons for beauty brands. Nars has recently appointed Charlotte Rampling, 68, as ambassador for their “Audacious” makeup line, while Tilda Swinton, 53, will be the face of the brand's upcoming campaign.
Mirren is an accomplished actress who started with the Royal Shakespeare campaign. She went on to work in television and film. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “The Queen.” She has received distinction as Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, one of the highest honors a British monarch can award to outstanding individuals.
Mirren has been married to director Taylor Hackford since 1997.
