It seems like Luke Mitchell wasn’t the only one who garnered a promotion. Henry Simmons, who portrays Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie, has been promoted to a series regular for the upcoming third season of ABC’s MARVEL’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Read on to learn more about this exciting news.
According to the official website of MARVEL, Simmons’ Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie character, who was originally contemplating quitting S.H.I.E.L.D. at the conclusion of the second season, has been promoted as a series regular.
Mack, as he is fondly called by his S.H.I.E.L.D. teammates, joined S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Phil Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) team at the beginning of the show’s sophomore run as an engineer. He later on became close to Agent Leo Fitz (Iain de Castecker), whom he later on called “Turbo”, while he was still recovering, and while Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) was working undercover in HYDRA. He is also a good and close friend to Agent Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrienne Palicki).
They finally discovered the alien underground city which contained a chamber where Raina (Ruth Negga) and Agent Skye (Chloe Bennet) underwent the Inhuman process known as terrigenesis. Mack was taken over briefly by an alien force, which deepened his distrust of everything and anything alien.
Later on, it was learned that he and Bobbi were actually part of a faction of S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Commander Robert Gonzales (Edward James Olmost). He felt that Coulson was becoming a liability because he was brought back to life thanks to alien blood and DNA because of Project T.A.H.I.T.I. After the two factions merged, Mack, upon learning that Coulson would still be director, decided to quit, but ended up helping fight off the Inhumans, led by Jiaying (Dichen Lachman), Skye’s mother, who attacked and boarded their ship. He then later on saved Coulson’s life by hacking off his hand. He was getting infected by the terrigenesis crystal which he prevented from shattering.
Because of this, Mack has stayed on as the head of Alien Artificats Department. It includes overseeing all testing and experiments with regards to the Kree stone that they have in their possession.
Before this, Henry Simmons portrayed Detective Baldwin Jones in “NYPD Blue” and portrayed Isaac Wright on the television show “Shark”. He also appeared on the television series “Ravenswood” as Simon Beaumont.
