It has been four months since its fourth season finale aired on television, but History is yet to announce when the fifth season of the critically-acclaimed period drama Vikings will premiere. However, in a new post, actress Katheryn Winnick has teased a major news coming really soon. Does it have something to do with the series’ anticipated return?

Vikings Season 5 Update

The new season which started filming way back in fall last year has recently wrapped up, according to the show producer. The series will bring the Vikings to the Mediterranean and, according to rumors and true historical accounts, Iceland.

While History has not set an exact premiere date for Vikings Season 5, it looks like it will be announced in a few days or so. On Facebook earlier this month, Winnick teased the possible announcement.

“Just finishing up season 5 episodes,” the caption read. “Big news about #Vikings coming soon!”

The actor did not provide more details, but she attached a photo of Queen Lagertha on-screen. From the looks of it, the snapshot if from post-production. See below:

From her caption, it looks like even post-production work on the upcoming season is almost finished if it is not yet already completed. This might mean that fans would not wait long before they see at least the first half of the fifth season. It is also possible that a new trailer will be released, likely in time for San Diego Comic-Con.

Lagertha’s Fate

Vikings Season 5 will be interesting for Winnick’s character Lagertha. After the death of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) last season, many fear that the shieldmaiden will be heading to Valhalla next.

The character is definitely in danger because she has a few adversaries who wants her dead. King Harald (Peter Franzen) is expected to go after her. Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen) and his brothers also want to have their revenge for killing their mother in Season 4.

She already previously had a brush with death when she was confronted by Ivar. If her son Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) did not intervene, she had to kill Ivar or be killed by her ex-husband’s youngest son. Moreover, the Seer has already seen her death and she will die in the hands of the sons of Ragnar.

In an earlier report, iBTimes pointed out that Winnick will only appear in a handful of episodes in Viking Season 5.  Her IMDB page claims that Lagertha will appear in four episodes (Episodes 1, 5, 13 and 17). However, on her social media accounts, the actor also teased that fans will see her in Episodes 16 and 18 as well.

As for Fimmel, his IMDB does not list any episodes for Season 5. It is safe to say that Ragnar is really dead and will not be haunting Kattegat anytime soon. The actor does not have any episodes for Season 5 listed under his name so

In addition, the official Instagram account of Vikings posted a bloody photo of Winnick as Lagertha. This further fueled the speculation that the fan favorite’s story might come to an end in the upcoming season.
