What happens when a brilliant Hollywood director reboots a film franchise in alliance with a talented and capable cast and a well-liked movie monster?  Well! The result is “Godzilla.” Read on for Movie News Guide’s (MNG) Hollywood Box Office update as Godzilla surpasses $100M and has now grossed over $200M worldwide. It also faces “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” this weekend.

Gareth Edwards’ figured out along the way something the studio missed in 1998.  Click HERE to read our review. “Godzilla,” opened at No. 1 in domestic theaters this past weekend, exceeding the forecasts with $100 million. On the other hand, the 1998 version of “Godzilla,” only opened to $44 million.

“It was a monster opening for ‘Godzilla’ with the numbers coming in well over expectations,” “Hollywood has learned that the success of these tent pole films have to play well at home and globally, and ‘Godzilla’ is the type of film that is embraced around the world,” said Bloomberg Industries analyst Paul Sweeney.

Legendary Entertainment LLC has produced the movie in collaboration with distributor Warner Bros. It’s projected by BoxOffice.com to generate $240 million in its U.S. and Canadian theatre runs.

This Friday, May 23, 2014,  the audience will watch the much anticipated release of “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” which is again forecasted to cross the $100 million mark.  In case, you don’t enjoy science-fiction focused on robots, mutants and giant lizards, the latest romantic comedy “Blended,” starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore hits theatres as well.  Check out the table from boxoffice.com, which contains the Daily Domestic Gross as of  Tuesday, May 20, 2014.

The noteworthy point is that in the coming weeks, every movie will have to face something more unruly than “Godzilla” and “X-Men: Days Of Future Past,” and that is  FIFA’s World Cup, an international tournament that starts off on June 12, 2014 and will last for one month.

And that’s it for MNG’s Hollywood Box Office update. For more details coming up about the Hollywood including movie reviews, trailers and celebrity news, stay tuned here at  Movie News Guide (MNG).
