The shocking photos, which include Hollywood actresses and singers including an Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice and Kate Upton, were posted on the image sharing forum 4chan, on 31 August 31,2014. Users started the Twitter hashtag, #LeakforJLaw, commenting it would be the “worldwide trolling of a lifetime.” Click here to see the hacker tweets and pictures.
Reportedly approximately 60 unclothed pictures of Lawrence were reportedly stolen from her iCloud account. Apple has not released any statement on the allegations. While Justice and Grande have both said that the pictures are bogus Lawrence’s representative verified their authenticity telling ABC News that the pictures were a “This is a flagrant violation of privacy.”
According to the reports, the same user also claimed to have more evidences involving the actress. He said that offering to share that collection of photos and videos more monetary gains
In a statement from her legal representative, supermodel Kate Upton ad her boyfriend Justin Verlander “intend to pursue anyone disseminating or duplicating these illegally obtained images to the fullest extent possible.”
It seems that the alleged hacker may possibly have accessed at least some of the photos from a ‘cloud.’ Cloud is an internet storage service in which users’ information and media are supposed to remain confidential.
“Even if you have deleted those photos from your phone, often times they’ve already been uploaded into the cloud. When you deleted them from the phone, they continue to exist,” explained Professor Clifford Neuman, Director of USC Center for Computer System Security.
In the report from Independent, the master hacker behind the distribution of nude photos and videos of celebrities is allegedly dejected with the money involved because he considered himself as “a “collector” rather than a “hacker.”
“I didn’t take the money and run. S**t got weird once I started posting samples “People wanted s*** for free. Sure, I got $120 with my bitcoin address, but when you consider how much time was put into acquiring this stuff (i’m not the hacker, just a collector), and the money (i paid a lot via bitcoin as well to get certain sets when this stuff was being privately traded Friday/Saturday) I really didn’t get close to what I was hoping.” wrote the hacker on website 4Chan.
Bitcoin is a software-based online payment system. It exists independently of a central bank and can be bought by unspecified customer, facilitating keen privacy. Bitcoin has been a subject of scrutiny amid concerns that it can be used for unlawful activities, to a great extent like cash.
