“Homeland” fans, are you excited for Season 4? If you’re expecting a set in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC), then you will be surprised that the series is leaving the U.S. to film it’s 4th season… and where is this? “Homeland” Season 4 is filming in Cape Town, South Africa.

Below is a statement by “Homeland” show runner and executive producer Alex Gansa about “Homeland” Season 4 filming in Cape Town, South Africa.

“We knew going into season 4 that we would need to move the production overseas to tell the story of Carrie returning to the Middle East as chief of station. We are thrilled to have found a new home in Cape Town and look forward to getting season four production off the ground,” said Gansa as reported by E! News.

A bit of a refresher course for “Homeland” fans out there, the end of Season 3 found Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) taking the job in Istanbul.

However, the new season (“Homeland” Season 4) is still not completely mapped out and details are still being sorted out. It is only said that Mathison will be “assigned to one of the most volatile and dangerous CIA stations in the Middle East where she is back on the front lines in the war on terror.”

In the past 3 seasons of “Homeland,” Mathison didn’t have a lot of “field” exposure. Showtime president David Nevins assured “Homeland” fans that this time around, in this new season of the show (“Homeland” Season 4), fans will get more action from Mathison on the field in a foreign capital.

And as for one of the popular characters of the show, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin), who is Carrie’s mentor, don’t worry “Homeland” fans because he is still going to be there and this is going to be really interesting as he guides and teaches Mathison while she’s doing her new job. However, Emmy winner Damian Lewis will not return for the season anymore. Fans can also expect the return of Rupert Friend and Nazanin Boniadi this season.

The production of “Homeland” Season 4 which will be filming in Cape Town, South Africa, will start in mid-June through November, 2014.

“Homeland” is set to premiere this Fall 2014 on Showtime.
